Awesome amp - I used mine live again a couple of weeks ago - no PA, it was more than adequate, though I wish I had turned up a bit, but no soundman to help us with stage balance - one of the guitarists was TOO LOUD as I found out later by the recording I made, but I don't plan with playing with him anymore.

(Bass was going through the GK, bass pedals triggering an MFB Synth Lite II module & kick went through the JBL EON)

This darn 'Dog is draggin' his waggin' tail today. It's time to recupe!

The regular Sunday morning gig went great! New CC song-o'-the-month along with a couple other highly-harmonized, well sung, songs went over very well. Even Mrs. Dog was very complimentary, and she's my harshest critic! Then played along, with unusual confidence, to the traditional hymns in the regular 11am service. A peaceful glow ensured.

So, I wandered over to the Fellowship Hall and donated blood. "Eat a good meal and drink more fluids than usual", they said. "Oh, I always do", thought I. Mrs. Dog always has a sumptuous Sunday dinner ready when I get home, since she doesn't stay for the 11am service (same sermon).

Oh, but not this day! She has put up with the 'little', old, massive, 20" CRT TV in place of her nice 55" LCD for a whole week while it's being repaired. "It's a Trinitron!", I had told her last weekend, "The best CRT TV ever made!", I implored. "The colors are horrible and it's so small it hurts my eyes!", she says. Having been such a good patient thru both cataract surgeries a few months ago, she knows I value her eyes. "Best Buy is having a sale!!", she continues, "And they have this one in stock!!", she lifts her laptop to show me. "I called and they're holding it for me!!!", she effused. I now see the analogy between amp and TV technological evolution and recall her support of my Class D acquisitions.

It's not the weight of the new LED TV, per se, but that it can't use the same wall mount! No standardization there, even in the same brand of mount. Thankfully, the 17-year-old grandpup was available, and willing, to help, measure, unscrew, drill, rescrew, and hang the new TV. I gratefully thank him and blame my more supervisory role on blood donation (wink, wink). He winks back. Mawmaw Dog gives him way too much "gas money" for driving the 2 miles to our house from his.

Thus the guestroom will get an upgrade to the older LCD when it's repair is done. Grandpup is on call for another wall mount 'party'. Mrs. Dog is happy. Grandpup is happy. G-Dog is exhausted, but serene.

So, go ahead. Summon Phil, the Prince of Insufficient Light to "darn me to heck", if you want. Today, instead of yesterday, is my day of rest. No insanely lifelike graphix being produced this day.

It is weighty but when you do a complete inside and out review of the combo you begin to realize no expense was spared. All those massive magnets, all the internal bracing, and quality top-shelf components used thru-out were hand-picked by Phil. Some compromises in the weight department had to be made. Personally, I am ok with this. Anyone who owns the BG400 knows nothing topples it in its size class. These little 12x13x14 cubes really deliver. Sure you can find a bigger better sounding cab or combo but it will always be larger. I have several rigs to choose from. Small-Medium-Large depending on venue size. Options are good to have

Oh yeah no complaints here, either. It's a C4 its own PJB amp inside. That's pretty awesome on its own ecause the C4 is an amazing cab. To my ear, there's a certain "sweetness" to the BG-400 tone I haven't heard elsewhere. Gave a friend an A-B comparison with the Elf through a C4 and she believes the BG-400 is "warmer". Which is very interesting to me as I hear a lot going on in the mids with the Elf.

Pairing the BG-400 with the C4 will see me though any indoor gig. The BG-400 alone is probably good for 70 percent of the rooms I'm likely to see.

The entire point of the Elf - well, first it was intended to hold down the bottom until my BG-400 and I were on the same continents again. The Elf also seemed to me a good solution for any place with a backline cab, and for "smaller" rooms than merit the BG-400. Not really sure what that means. A true one-handed carry is what I have in mind, and still considering a good cabinet pairing for the Elf. The PJB Cab 27 is leading the race, the SVT210AV close behind, and the TE 1x10 not completely out of the running.

If the BG-400 and C4 rig is ever "not enough", it is possible to run a line out from the BG-400 to drive both rigs. Which would have to be in the realm of WOAH LOUD, but hey there's never enough thrash metal to go around in this town.

Agreed the BG400 with one or two more C4's is plenty loud for the majority of my gigs. The only time I will step up to one of my larger rigs is if I really want that low-end rumble. But the majority of the time the house system handles that so I am good with the BG400.

Here here, congratulations to the Combo Club! We're only as successful as the membership makes us. New and exciting things are always happening here, and it's been a blast to keep it going. I'd enjoy seeing Chef Ken stop by to say a few words on whether we've met the vision he had for this club when he began it in 2015.

hiero, nice to see ya! It's been a while since you've graced us with cool pics like this one. That rig looks like it means business. I saw today there's a guy looking for an amp and the later pages have been very pro-GK. You outta jump in on that action if you so desire. I'm just shocked at the sticker price increases of their amps, especially the combos. My little MB108 of a couple of years ago has nearly doubled in price and I don't see a larger driver or more powerful amp inside. What gives, h?

Unfortunately I usually only get to gig once a year, if that! I am very fortunate to have two amazing, musical drummers, but unfortunately they both live far away...

I hadn't heard about the GK price increase - I was amazed how cheap my MB-112 II was when I purchased it (can't remember when, but most likely about five years ago or more) - I haven't been in the market for a long time so I don't have any ideas on why.

I gigged for quite a while with a Mesa Walkabout 12 with an extension cab if circumstances warranted it. I still own these things - just haven't used them in awhile.

My current 'combo' is a Trace Elliot ELF on top of a MAS 18. So, crazy portable but not strictly a combo.
