And that’s half the fun of it! Nope, your reasoning is solid, plus it really allows you the opportunity to push each piece of your gear to its maximum quality-sound limits.

Now if you grow weary of all this brainwork, I have the perfect solution: Fender Stage 800. Done.

Thank you......it's a fantastic little amp.....if you get a chance you should try one out.....awesome for studio work and small rooms, bigger rooms with DI and FOH.....

Boy, this club is on fire right now. Combo amps are a great buy because bass players are enjoying not only their size but also the sonic quality.

Hey Red! Glad you're digging the Acoustic. That wedge-shaped idea is a good one. My Ampeg v2 sounds great pointed at me during noodling time. Yet to try it as a monitor since that's one of its pluses. Yeah, give it a try.

Who let this board fall asleep? Now, don't make me feel guilty 'cuz I'm not on in the day during the week, okay? The first day talking to adults in meetings and I'm ready to wrap up the year already! Nah, but getting up early isn't as much fun as it was a few months ago. I snuck some time in with the VOX just now and its tone is beginning to naturally darken a bit...slowly. I like where it's headed though and will keep pounding away on it.

A couple of take-aways:

1) 'Dog, you are so correct on the comp; it is a boost along with being a dynamics reducer. I have to drop the gain down in order to keep the natural tone or it gets too bassy for my ears. There's less distinction between notes otherwise. It's okay for some songs, but I prefer it and the OD off, though I admit the drive sounds pretty good.

2) To any of you other owners, am I crazy or is there a dash of liveliness coming out of that cab? To me, it's not boxy-sounding at all and almost gives me a sense of space with each note. I'm wondering if the ABS cabinet has anything to do with that. Regardless, I like the way the notes come out of the combo.

3) I'm still trying to figure out, G'Dog, how you reached the volume levels you did at church. I need to take mine to a larger room and see how it does, but to me, it's not much louder than the Ampeg. I know the volume with the same-sized speakers isn't gonna be that far off, but the VOX sings small to me. 'Dog, can you give me an idea what your settings were when you used it at church? Were you running the Comp and Drive? Gain cranked? Right now for this room, I'm running gain at about 10:30-12:00 and volume at 12:00-2:30. Just looking for comparison and anyone who has one of these tiny combos can chime in.

Soul Reflection asked for notes so I hope he's reading these. I'm also gonna try recording the VOX, BA-108 v2, and Stage 800 for SR in order to compare tones. I promise to do it, but don't hold your breath! Maybe over Labor Day.

Gotta get up in six hours. You folks who are enjoying retirement...I can't wait! :woot:

Wee-e-ell, I dunno, iago, my Vox did sound boxy to me, at first. Are you playing it to break it in? I tried playing a lot, for me, to get a warmer sound and it workedl

Hmmm, my debut church gig may have every bit as much to do with the sanctuary acoustics as the Vox's prowess. I always start with all settings at noon, but volume down. Up to that point volume at noon was my max, but I pro'lly went a good bit beyond that to compensate for the lack of FOH. Then, too, our volunteer band assistant, now retired, may have been overly kind on his assessment of my bass volume. But don't let that stop you from putting yours to the test!

Oh I know, I just like to hear myself whine a little. You guys all paid you’re dues and I’m just about there.

The kids and parents came in tonight for our annual “Meet the Teacher Night.” It was nice seeing them all again. The folks looked worn out from summer and I was like the antidote to what ails them. The youngins are glad to be back because they’re basically tired of being naughty at home and are itching to take the show on the road!

It’ll be a great year...

Wasn't quiet in MorrighanLand Friday night as it is a great idea to open up the amps to volume. For science!

Final piece on the evolving pedalboard - well even I knew there would need to be a fun pedal in the chain - is an MXR Vintage Bass Octave. Put in my order with the local brick and mortar because it's a good place to do business with. This is the place where I said I need a patch cable and they said can make you one now.

Same place where I scored my Hendrix Hazy Purple coily cable, so it stands to reason there would be no wireless on the board. When the MXR arrives there will probably be room yet for one full width pedal. But without being able to describe the sound(s) I'm looking for I see little point in chasing that. Vintage Bass Octave because fun.

What I'm really wondering - seems this is always a good place to ask questions - is how much ̶h̶o̶o̶k̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶l̶a̶d̶d̶e̶r̶ hook and loop stuff do I actually need? I bought some industrial ̶h̶o̶o̶k̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶l̶a̶d̶d̶e̶r̶ Velcro and am good to go when the MXR comes in.

Oh yeah and I'll be using the pedal order VBO, HPF, VT Bass.
