This is not helping my GAS!
I’ve brought larger lunches to school than what this amp could hold inside!
Tried it out a couple of hours ago and thinking of you while playing. Probably not loud enough on its own even with the 210, I thought pretty tubey sounding just the same.
I was running volume at 3:00, gain at 2:00, and fuzz on and off. The nice thing was it never sounded strained to me, though gain didn’t do much after 2:00. Running in 8 ohms does knock off a little in terms of sheer volume compared to the VOX cab, but the low-end response is obviously incomparable. The Superbeetle rig is nicer than you’d think once you get her dialed in.
Compression is limited because it’s either on or off, but the fuzz is kinda cool. Under certain conditions I could see using it.
Now I’m gonna try it with the Jazz.

Wondering out loud, why would Vox' top bass offering be a VX50BA ? Did someone project an insufficient market for VX200BA ? Sometimes good projects are shut down not because they're not profitable, shut down because they're not profitable enough.
Great deal depends on what one finds useful in a rig.
My BA108v2 Plus is useful to me, and now modestly more useful in that it could conceivably do light duty without breaking a sweat. Conceivably a little Vox could be useful where I don't need the baby 'Peg. Something between the BA108v2 Plus and the Elf would be useful for me.

They should come in pairs: an amp and a lunchbox, looking exactly the same.
I need to think about what you wrote here for a while. The more I play the head/cab rig the more I question if I really need the combo. I mean, the head weighs nothing and the cab is like an easy 18 lb haul, though there's no handle to it. It delivers more bass, to my ears, than the combo does. I'm sure it's the difference in cabinets, but if they lowered the price of the Superbeetle they could wipe out the combo, I'm sure. Yeah, then a 150-200 watt rig as a more giggable option would be next.
But here's the catch ladies and gents...this 25-watt head into my Ampeg is downright rude and with moral character! Normally, I like my amps to behave themselves in a stately manner, but oh no, not this one. It led me to Green Grass and High Tides, Jesus Just Left Chicago, and Highway Song all in a span of 30 minutes. Doc, don't even consider grabbing one of these heads unless you drink lightning out of a rusty flask! That is, if VOX is smart enough to sell it separately, which would be ludicrous of them not to at some point.
I immediately think of KbD when he wrote that he'd crank the living snot out of his combo. Yeah, Deadly, I get it now. Then add the fuzz if you really wanna stick it to the man. You'd love this sucka.
Gotta go and blow up something. I'm bad...and I'm nationwide.

To me, the Vox is something I'd want to be seen with.
Oh, I think you’d did this thing too, M. I forgot the most important part of my tale above. It’s all the Jazz bass! My gal woke from her slumber and immediately bonded with the VOX. Play the bridge PUP gets you a nasty burble they just sings with dirty blues.
Even with tamer settings, the Fender covers the entire frequency spectrum and it’s easy to tell the difference in the output. The VOX seems to want to be pushed hard and there’s a reward for it too. Like with any tube, it’s recommended to do a pre-warning before playing and I’m finding 20-30 min isn’t hurting the tone one bit.
I’ve been going back and forth between the well-bred Stage 800 and the VOX. It’s like a ballerina and a stripper involved in a dance off...
If only it put out a couple of hundred watts!

Fresh off some comparisons, there's really no substitution for the tonal complexity of the Phil Jones BG-400. That's discounting the rattling when I bring it up a little ... There's no way the 8 inch driver of the BA108v2 Plus, or the twin 7 inch drivers on the Cab 27 are going to get anywhere near what eight 5 inch Piranha do. Just looking at tone....
So much going on with flat settings on the Phil Jones combo ... it's just musical. It's clean, clean, clean but far from sterile. The Cab 27 should be a similarly uncoloured cabinet, so what I'm hearing from the Elf feels a bit scooped. Of course I can EQ a lot of that out, but it doesn't change the fundamental character of the Elf. Not to be taken for faint praise, I like the Elf and Elf tone.* Would use anywhere. A pair of PBJ Cab 27s has me wondering what the Elf would do with a pair of Cab 47s

Which (to me) makes it the "practice amp" it is. I'm hearing what's really there (more or less). That's good. Keeps me focused on what's really important: my own attention to my playing. The best equipment is still only equipment ....
Little baby Vox through a Portaflex cab is quite a sight.
* if I did not have the Elf head, the Elf 1x10 combo would be something of real interest to me. The full Elf and the full TE 1x10 as a combo works out to about the same buy-in as the separates.

Great reading here, M, thanks. You possessing the PJB gear has given you a wealth of options for whatever tone you seek. I also like the way you’re using the Super Baby Ampeg as a baseline device to compare sounds. Toss in the Elf for good measure and you, my dear, have a formidable setup.
And the VOX head with the 210 cab is one wicked combination. I’m imagining what a second cab and 50 watts might do.

Wow I got lots of past reading to do and heaps of new members to meet..HI KIDS..there's even a lovely female addition from Canada I noted..and my age too loll..both of us with that old nemesis Arthur Ritis

I'll have to fill you in on my last couple months of non-attendance there teacher..but I have a note loll
Had a nice 2 month tour around of a few different States of Oz other than my state of South Oz, without the distraction of a laptop loll, had another small op on my neck due to knocking on my back door with the top of my head after tripping on the first step and headbutting the darn wooden door.."missed the glass by that much 99" said Agent Giff. Got my NBN (Aussie National Broadband Network) connection finally sorted out and she seems to be working great now.
It seems sitting for any length of time in a seat, chair, stool, etc etc is being a literal pain in the neck since about Sept. due to the vertebra issues (I had a piece of neck bone removed in about 2006ish called a laminectomy to relieve pressure on my spinal chord..lol (cord) and the clout against the back door using my head didnt improve the neck probs....A year previously about 2005ish had a lower back disc removed and that was fun too lollll)
Anyway by some miracle it doesnt affect me standing up wearing the 4003 Ric, or the EBMM5 or the Peavey Dynabass5 or the....errrr the Peavey T-40 is a different story..it requires 1 guy to hold the body, 1 guy to hold the neck and me sitting on a chair between them to play the darn boat anchor loll hey you lot thinking I was talking about my body and neck NOOO I was talking about the T-40 lol

Wow! After that incredible story that’s all I can say. You sure know how to make an entrance, Sir Giff! I don’t know where to begin a response.
So...how’ve ya been? No wait, you covered that. I feel terrible for all the physical woes you’ve had to go through in 2019. I’ll bet you’ll be glad to see the year turn over.
But as you said, as long as you can strap in one of those killer basses for a spin around the park I’m sure you’re happy. I can see you’re pretty healthy when it comes to amplification.
We’ve been doing pretty well here at the club. Just added our 169th member last night and are appreciative every time someone asks to join. Our core cast of characters are still here, though they have their other favorite haunts to visit as well.
Many combos, new and used, have been purchased of late and they make for good conversation. It gives all of a chance to live vicariously through one another as we read about the details and watch the GAS hit each of us.
Morrighan and I swapped drivers out of our Ampeg practice combos and have enjoyed the difference it’s made tonally.
I’ve also been on a VOX terror of late with a purchase of their 50-watt combo in late summer, and their latest, the Superbeetle, head/cab rig. Read above a few as I’m just starting to play it over vacation and report my findings. Start back a few months of you want to catch up on the goings ons of our members. Some good stuff there to skim.
Glad to hear your I’net is up and performing valuably. Maybe you’ll be able to stay connected longer now. We’ve missed your wit!
I started making some homemade recordings and have been sending them to Soul Reflection for listening tests and a little critique of the songs occasionally. I’ve never been much of a recording person in all my years, but this has been a lot of fun and it forces me out to push yourself so it doesn’t sound like total crud. I’ll add you to my list since I owe you a couple of hundred recordings! I’ve got an enjoyable Christmas Assembly coming up in three weeks for the entire school and I’m excited about that.
Just hang in there physically, Giff, until you’re well enough to get back on the road again. Say hi to the Mrs. for us, please. And try and not to drop a match in all that dry brush making up most of Australia. How close did the fires get to ya?

Im almost back to fighting fit..I'm used to the neck ache all these years anyway and have had years to learn to live with it...needless to say I gave Mrs. Giffro (Charly) a cuddle and kiss for ya and she still calls me a pain in the neck.
Sounds like ya got ya Christmas activities sorted out in 3 weeks so best of enjoyment with that. Don't get too exited or you'll fluff ya notes.
We are off for a couple days next week so dont panic..i'll try to connect using the laptop and the country club's wifi connection..lol..and NOOOO im not playing golf..not with this neck and back lol..just staying in a country club complex with a course attached lol
