The Combo Club

Good evening/morning everyone! I just finished jamming away for a couple of hours and am heading to dream about all things bass. It was fun, but there's still so much to be done, isn't there? I wanted to show you a new bass cover for my Stage 800. Isn't she a beaut? If I'm ever out in the wind, I'm sure it'll keep the bass sheltered.

Talk to ya in the daylight hours in between Zoom meetings.

I do like the song, but confess that my eye got arrested by the image...

Rod, ya seen one full moon, ya seen them all. “Let me know, I’ll even let you in on all the phases, said that space scientist.

I've heard of early to bed, but isn't it only 5 PM out there?

Ready and waiting for the Terrible review!

And some moons are more worth gazing upon than others.

Ms. M, here is your "major award" Mystic Seer Ring authorized by Fearless Leader for correctly guessing the make & model of his new toy. (It can't be a "real" amp since it doesn't have a built-in speaker, right?) Wear it in good health, secure in the knowledge that the future is an open book to you. ;)

Love the work, ‘Dog. The craftsmanship is impeccable. Maybe I’ll have to buy something each month and turn this thing into a running contest. Congrats, M!

Would love to hear how that sounds with the violin bass!

Give me a little bit, RR. I’ve already made some inventory changes after one evening of play. I did learn that my cabinet needs some additional playing time through it. It’s been rarely used and it sounded it.

What didn’t overwhelm me was the Rogue bass. The tone from it (and all its warts) came out much more pronounced than compared to a Rumble or Ampeg combo.

It was decent in clean mode, and with the additional clean switch compared to the first version, gave it a usable tone. Still no deep bass and rather muddy, but okay. I didn’t like it as well with the grit in the drive channel. Admittedly, I heed to bond with this head and time will be needed, but the Rogue whispered in my ear afterwards and told me it’s much happier with the Foxy Voxy Amps and especially the Fenders.

So bring on the Jazz maybe this weekend. It may also help me decide whether the LaBellas will be sticking around on the Fender or not.

The Games have begun! :hyper:

But I hang on your every word, dear Fearless Leader! ;)
No worries, give it time to settle into your ears, and in a week let us know how things sound then.

All that grill work, what's in there? A bunch of 3" speakers?

Thank you, b. It was a too-little musical day yesterday. I spent a whopping ten minutes trying out my J-bass through the Terror, but found out these two would like to get to know each other better and possibly date, unlike the violin bass and Terror; that relationship ended before the second course of their dinner.

I’m hoping to record this weekend for one of those worldwide video songs where they are trying to break a record oof 1,500 musicians playing for three mi utes together. I thought it sounded like fun, but gave only gone over it once so far. “Rock You Like a Hurricane,” which this amp/bass rig should do justice. I hope to find the time today to do a little fun work.

GP, seriously? Do you think I’d blow my shekels on something like that? Actually there’s a bunch of 4” speakers...sheesh.

The head is pretty well put together. Switches are controls are tight, the chassis is solid, yet it's only about ten pounds. It even comes with a nice bag to haul with.

I did open up the grill on Thursday night and popped the two tubes out. A couple of Ruby valves (12AX7 at the bass input and a 12AT7 at the send in the FX loop) and they seemed decent. I’ll probably pick up a couple of different ones to roll.

Now if I only had a doom metal band I could join to play some Sleep or Acid King...

Looks like tubey goodness...surprised the Jazz didn't play nice though.

I’m sorry, SR, if I was confusing, the Jazz played great yesterday with the Orange; it was the violin bass that wasn’t as impressive. And it could be I don’t have it dialed in right, but the Rogue sounds much better with the VOX and Fender combos. Much more woody then with the Terror, and its got the tube front end.

The Jazz though sounded powerful. Still not convinced I’m keeping the LaBella strings on, but it’s the best I’ve heard from my buddy in a while.

This head is like full of secrets and possibilities. I just need the time to unlock them. Orange has a single twelve cab they’re selling as a companion to the Terror Bass 500. I’d love to hear what it sounds like through that.

No need to apologize, Mike. It wouldn't be the first time I got something backwards and, due to age, probably not the last :help:.

A different cabinet with different drivers could make all the difference. Your comment on the Rogue reminded me of my experience with the EB2-Dc that I sold. As you said playing with//learning the controls could make all the difference. Good luck with it.
