The Combo Club

Karlson541, I humbly extend to you an invitation to join our little lovefest we call the Combo Club.
If you'd like, I will issue a number, something I haven't done in a while, and we'll add you to the ranks. You're the kind of person we are always looking for; passionate about your equipment and always on the lookout for something to add to the fleet! Send me a thumbs up and I'll blow off the dust on my membership books and take care of some business. Thanks for sharing!

That's a warm welcome if I ever saw one, thank you.
Can't say no to such a kind offer.

Aye! By the pow'rs, 'tis indeed the day to talk straight and plain, without flowery puffery nor highfalutin words.

After all, we be naught but simple folk hereabouts at Ye Clubbe of Thine Divine Combinaçioné, wherein we oftentimes find a single box to be all but sufficient to our amplification purposes. Verily! 'Tis without extraneous contrivances that purity of musically pleasing timbres be producèd whereby a savage breast is soothede by charms of, is it not?

So, greetings and salutations of the day be unto us all on this esteeméd occasion.

Speaking of Trace Elliot, here’s a combo that will make ears bleed. I think of it as combo amp artillery:

Here ye, here ye! It gives me great pleasure to present to you, the membership of the Combo Club, our 105th member in good standing, Karlson541. Bravo and please don't be a stranger. Okay, M, now you can offer him your tot of rum!

Bravo, ye olde G-dog! Ye shivered me timbers with all that flowery puffery 'n highfalutin words. Well, they at least were to this olde landlubber. A belated Happy Talk-Like-a-Pirate Day to ya!

OMG, it's the Mother of All Combos! That sucka has to weigh in at least 30-40 lbs, maybe more. I mean, figuring it's a Class D, plywood cab and just looks heavier than it really is...right? Very sweet-looking though.

Wednesday night I played a "big band"(5 saxes, 4 trumpets, 4 trombones, piano, drums and me)gig with 2 combo amps. My Rumble 200C for me and my Rumble 40 as a boost for the piano man(the set-up has him Waaay off to the right, the boost amp is by the drummer). The venue is a hotel/lounge dining area. Pretty good size but not an auditorium. Both amps more than carried their weight. FWIW, I was playing my '67 non-reverse Thunderbird:bassist: on the gig-which I'll be doing for 2 more weeks, subbing for the regular bassist-medical.:)

Ahoy me hearties, and a lovely equinox today it is. The equinox would be of interest to navigators of the high seas, and to me too. For my bass was completed on Solstice Eve, and this is how she took her name. In my tradition, we mark the cross-quarters as well, and when it comes down to only me to call to the river on the winter solstice of 12, I say out loud, in front of people, "it's a shame that I am the one who has to do it." That is me, eating a salad under a statute of Pallas Athena with a friend who flew in from France to be here now.

This equinox finds me in the hospital for a CT scan, and resolve to open up to my time on board with Solstice Eve today. Talking with my closest friends who are in County Donegal right now, and they all remind me of my coffee with C--- in front of the statue of Rory Gallagher when all this medical junk became a priority.

And one of the things I remark upon in the experience of playing a semi-hollowbody is the necessity of playing it lower that I do my 'Ray. The pics of Jack Casidy are right, and needless to say I'm very aware of my body as I play.

The problem I found with even the strap extenders is the strap itself ends about halfway down my back. And we resolved to fix this we did, and here we have the cheesecake shot of Solstice Eve with the rockin' new strap and the Loyal Order of Water Buffalo honoree Ampeg BA108v2. That's 140 cm of leather cut to fit and is a replica of the strap Jerry Garcia used circa ~68-9 - 7?

The strap is perfect for me. /end strap GAS ...

Combo me up!

Greetings club members and gawkers! Wow, it looks as if everyone took a powder this past weekend. I thought I was maybe the only one, but obviously not. So we're ya'll gigging the weekend away? Give us the dirt if you remember. I was fortunate enough to sneak in exactly one hour of new-amp playing time after supper on Sunday evening. Better than nothing! First time for hooking up the Zoom B1Xon thru the Acoustic.TBH, I thought the amp sounded better alone; at least until the speaker loosens up more. Everything was boomy with too much bass no matter what patch I applied. My heart (and ears) was missing the Rumbler terribly. So I dropped the bass and lower mid-bass and things cleaned up, but I'm telling ya, if you know someone who doesn't have much coin but wants to sound like a bass player, it's still not a bad choice. As for articulation...the jury is still out. It needs more playing time to loosen it up, but I'm wondering if I'll lose the bottom-end dominance. I know, who cares? It's a $137 amp. I have mentioned that before, right? Still sounds like a BA-series amp too.

Okay, so what's up with everyone else? Check in and be recognized by our club guard, G-Dog. Hey, he's got the time and enjoys greeting member when they come in. What can I say?

PS: Giff, where the heck are ya? Sheesh, even Kansas gets service faster than Down Under!
