Just finished correcting essays for social studies, but I had to stop by to reply to the wit and genius of one G-Doggie. Yes, Fearless Leader will review new combo (finally pulled it out of the box tonight), but not until this weekend at the earliest. I received a registered letter from my bass in the mail today. I'm being taken to court and being charged with impersonating a bass player. I tried to explain, Your Honor, I'm too darned busy to chop the wood. Hopefully, this weekend will find me trying out the Acoustic B50C. It may sound like crappola, but it sure looks nice. It's a chunky little guy (30 lbs), and reminds me of the Ampeg tilt-backs. I'm keeping an open mind...

Borscht, Dog? I don't even like beets, but I'll play your little game. First of all, Mrs. Dog has my sympathies. Second, Mrs. Leader has basically given me Carte Blanche this year because it's already been one big pressure cooker, hence the just getting done with h'work. Don't be shocked if an RS40 (that's secret code) follows me home when the Christmas tree is up and everyone is supposed to act jolly. I still haven't something to record with yet. All she asks me is, "Do you have room?" and I always reply..."Define room."

So KGB-Dog, if you want to cross the border and enter the Forbidden Zone to bag a Studio or Stage, I'll call the attack hamsters off that night. Then you can steal the spotlight as we all wait in anticipation of a well-written tell-all on the new combo. I may even sell my Markbass Micromark to help fund the Stage 800. All I have to do is check my Ruble count first to see if I can schwing it! Just keep your Bullwinkle in check until the holidays, okay?

That's it for me. One more day of screaming children before I can come home and prep for next week. It's like Groundhog Day all over again! Seriously though, I do like the looks of that $136 amp. Pic coming soon! :hyper:

Help!!!

Adding the Vox to my Peavey worked so well I hatched a plan to add more to my set up. I modified the Vox to get more power and then bought an Eden 10" 300w cabinet to be the speaker for the Vox. The idea was that I would run a Y adapter out of the line out/headphone jack to both the Peavey and the Eden cab and better distribute my signal. Unfortunately the Eden cab has very little volume. In fact, the Vox is way louder without the Eden cabinet.

So what is the issue? Did I have the wrong expectations or is there something wrong with the cabinet? When I connect the Vox to the Peavey I can add plenty of volume to the Peavey by increasing the volume on the Vox. That leads me to believe I should be able to do the same with the Eden cab. But maybe it doesn't work the way I expect?

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Doc! Sounds like you need maye someone like GP or 'Dog, who frequent the Rumble Club where they use Alchemy to create unique combination of amps for their own amusement. Could it be an impedance issue? Perhaps the sensitivity level on the Eden isway lower than on either the Peavey or Vox? I'm just winging it.Man, where you play must look like a laboratory or something. Gotta love your spirit, and with combo amps at that!

Well here is the latest addition to my stable of fine, but affordable amps. Unboxed the B50C last night; gave it an evening to breathe, set it up tonight, and just played through headphones a bit ago. I will steal a few minutes tomorrow afternoon to open it up and see what the combo sounds like. After doing some reading, it sounds like GC/MF's Acoustic is competing with Ampeg and not Fender for market share with the whole tilt-back design and cutting the price right underneath the BA-series. If it sounds as good as my old B30, and why shouldn't it, I'll be happy being they were about the same cost. Who knows, maybe this will start a trend...Enjoy.

Looks great! Your suggestion about the speaker is likely correct too. I'll look into it.

Gigged a combo tonight (mini rig report)

The Rockits played tonight at Fullerton CA Elks Lodge #1993.

Band leader Dan was absent due to recent surgery, so I was there, broken foot-bone and all (yes I sat all night-first time ever).

Tonight’s weapons of choice were my:
  • Ampeg B100r
  • AVRI ‘63 P in sonic blue (w/Fender flats)
Accessory choices included
  • Korg pitch-jack tuner
  • Xvive U2 digital wireless
  • Fump mute

The Rockits played a usual blend of Doo-wop, Motown, 50’s and 60’s rock n roll and a smattering of classics like My Way and Mac the Knife.

The Elks dined and danced till the wee hour of 10:30, after which many of them just go to sleep (they go home first, of course :thumbsup:)

The panoramic photo shows why you stand still for pics as drummer got morphed while walking thru the scene.

The trusty Ampeg is the right fit for this room as it looks period correct, but doesn’t ’appear’ as loud as my other vintage gear.

I use a string mute a lot w/this band and I eq so that the P sounds nice and upright-like when I do. That sound comprises 30-40% of the night. Another 30-40% is more Motown-esque with highs rolled off and lots of doubling notes.

The balance is a mix of flat-pick w/more highs and everything between. I’m a fairly busy bassist with slight to major tone changes depending on the tune.

The Rockits play for the local Elks about 10-14 time’s a year including a much bigger NYE production, which we booked again a couple months ago.

Yeah, we've found that some of our best gigs are Elks, American Legion, VFW and such. Also country club dances. We do everything from dinner music(bossa novas and standards,etc.)to "classic" rock(whatever that means), some country and some Motown. Right now's the off season in FL, but things pick up next month.:thumbsup:

I can't speak for GP but, as for me, Alchemy and combining a Vox with a Peavey is all greek to me. IME the Rumble magic is all inside that one box. I don't even use an extension cab very often! Not that I'm against experimentation, I'm not. It's just that my Rumble has spoiled me into the K.I.S.S. principle, big time. Sorry.
