The Combo Club

... ... . I'm fine for now though with my BG400, Rumble 40, and Double 4. Next for me would be to try a bigger Rumble and add a C4 cab to my BG400 I think.

Protag, I hadda check 'cause I can't believe you haven't been to the Rumble Club yet!?! I sure thought you were already a member there. Just a word of warning, the 1300s are coming up there soon for member numbers. Now's the time if you'd prefer a more even-looking late 1200 instead! Just sayin' ... ;)

I currently have Ampeg BA108 v2 and am interested in the Ampeg BA110 v2. Looking for some feedback. Only used for a home practice. Looking for a little more bite. Already have a few 410c and want a small practice amp with more punch than the BA108. Is there a big difference between the two and is it worth spending an additional $100.00 for a 10" vs an 8". Also curious about the scrambler feature on the BA110

An Ampeg BA-108v2 gets daily use here for ... practice. I know, weird, innit? And as a practice amp, I find it's just perfect for my needs. When I'm practicing, I'm not in need of booty (satisfying as it may be). I find I listen with greater care at low volume levels.

My take from the TB forums is the BA-112 is the Goldilocks of the BA line. I've not played one, so there's that. I get my overdrive fix and 'Peg fix at low volume levels from a VTBass pedal.

And while not having played one myself, nor spoken with anyone who has, it seems to me the Tech 21 VT Bass 200 combo is poised to deliver all the booty. It's light, and there's a matching extension cabinet when the aim is rattling beer glasses off tables :hyper:

I've used a Fender Rumble 500 combo as my main rig for the last few years. ...

Yes, I've enjoyed my Rumble 500 combo as my main big rig for coming up on 7 years this summer. It is an awesome amp!

... BTW - I love the picture of The Ghoul as your avatar. :)

Well! I resemble that remark! :woot: But that's actually my 2015 Fender Modern Player Starcaster Bass in Aged Cherry.

Played the jazz gig tonight. 67 Thunderbird>2000 Bassman 25. Volume on amp:2. Not o'clock. 2 Hadda turn down from 3. Too bad it weighs more than twice as much as my R40. Oh, well, the experiment was a success.

Did you forget to put "jazz" in quotation marks? :woot:

Great, Goner! I never had any doubt about it. Do you mean this "experiment"? ;)

Hey Combo Club,

I know there's some VOX combo users that really like this baby:

Vox VX50BA 1x8" 50-watt Bass Combo Amp

Just curious to know how loud it is. I know it sounds good. Is it comparable to an older 100watt combo?
I use that amp, and like it, but I use it mostly in bi-amp situations where it pushes a bit of grit and the treble range. I know it's great for that. This is especially because it has a transparent line out, so you can easily run it in series with a second amp for easy bi-amping fun!

G-Dog also has a lot of experience with this amp and will be along shortly (if he hasn't commented already).

Good to know. Thanks!

It's definitely louder than the 9.9 lb. weight, 8" speaker and 50 watts would lead you to expect! But, no, it's not quite comparabke to a 100 watt combo (probably with 15" speaker). Here's a link to my first gig report where it pretty much carried a medium sized church sanctuary.

Here are a couple other thoughts I've had on it here in the Combo Club:

So the Peavey combo that I ordered from a store in California apparently made a pass by it's home world on it's way to my house.

I can't wait to get this. While Monday can't get here soon enough, I don't want to rush thru my weekend either. Hopefully it will magically run a bit early and arrive over the weekend. Meridian is relatively close by.

Thanks! I really like my old Ampeg 115 but I am wondering if I wouldn't want something a bit smaller if I start going to rehearsals and such in the near future. It sounds like it would be fine for just about any situation I could find myself in.
