Nice. I hope you enjoy your new combo, Recon. And don’t put up with anyone ragging about the plastic cabinet; the speaker is mounted to a wooden baffle. It’s amazing how petite it is though, isn’t it?

Didn’t really have any time to mess with it today due to familial functions, but I will say this- something that small really has no business being that loud.
I’ve been reading in the VX50BA thread that the amp requires some break-in before everything settles into a good groove, so I am trying to temper my expectations a bit. Still, I was happily surprised at the clarity of tone compared to the Peavey. Also pleasing was that by the end of the practice session yesterday, I could flip the overdrive switch and enjoy some sweet, sweet fuzz. I’m really looking forward to how it sounds with 20-30 more hours on it...
And your patience will be handsomely rewarded with a warmer, rounder sound. You’ll get that sense of a tube stake I g the highs a bit. If you wanted a modern, sterile combo, you bought the wrong one!
Just give that speaker a good ride for a few weeks. I don’t remember adding bass but did crank the gain up. Adding the OD won’t hurt a bit either.
Seems to me I vaguely remember someone playing a stereo through it to break it in.
Side note: at this stage of the game, anything I remember is 'vaguely'.
You’re right, GP, but I’m not sure who it was. I know there are those who recommend playing their phones or MP3 players through new amps at a louder volume level. This accelerates the time needed to break the speaker in.
Recon could do that too, especially if he’s got some rockin’ polka music available!
And you can be doin' that while at work, grocery shopping, teaching, mowing the lawn(oh, wait, I awready said 'work'), or whatever.

Me, too. Did they have you belt out Anchors Aweigh as you marched through the tunnel between the south and north base? The timbre of boondockers slapping through slush as we sang in the tunnel entrance has stayed with me for some reason.
No. I was in the recruit band. Hard to sing with a sax mouthpiece in yer face.

Doubt I ever hauled my rig in the snow, but I could.
Visited a brick and mortar Friday and left a few business cards on the board at the entrance. Two Fender Rumbles sighted and the Ampeg Rocket Fever got the better of me and I passed. Messed with a Hofner Contemporary Beatles bass and I could see me liking that. Two Hartke 15 inch combos, looked BIG to me. Everything looks big to a Phil Jones player

I’ve been checking out those Phil Jones apms and cabs. How do you like them? I’m intrigued but skeptical that they can really bring the low end.Doubt I ever hauled my rig in the snow, but I could.

I’m looking forward to somebody in Portland stocking the new Ampeg Rockets so I can try out one or two. I sure don’t need anything but what I’m reading about them ... well ...
Did the jazz gig Thursday night. I suggested we have a pool on how many customers we'd have. I picked 2. I woulda won.
Anyway, I restrung the Ibanez AGB200 with the D'Addario tapes I'd taken off in favor of some DTF's
. Much better sound for jazz w/ the tapes-very UB-y. AGB200>R40, no efx(battery weak on phaser plus really not worth hooking it up). Scheduled to do jazz gig again on 4/15. Won't be surprised if we're 86'ed.
