Finally!!! Got to unbox, and noodle around with my newest combo…the Ampeg Rocket Bass RB-115. Here it is next to its first consort- the 7ender 2017 Classic 60s Jazz bass…yes, with its new chrome bling!!
That Just about covers the vibe of this combo!! They look like “Hitsville USA” next to each other there!
The diamond pattern on this Ampeg is really cool. That, coupled with that silver grille cloth are reminiscent of the B15 and portaflex of the 60s. It looks GREAT!
Its lightweight for its size, for sure! And with its boxy, ergonomic dorm fridge-with-a-handle shape, it’s not heavy or awkward at all to move!!!
Let’s turn it on….
Now THATS pretty cool! I like the bi-colored lights- gorgeous deep sapphire blue (nice!) and a not too red orange for the SGT circuit. It’s a small, but cool feature that’s meaningless, but speaks to me nonetheless.
OK- As indicated, baby steps! As indicated, I kept the EQ flat, and only toyed with the SGT briefly as a gain boost. As pointed out elsewhere keeping the grit at 0 and tweaking the level knob you can get a nice, somewhat textured pre EQ signal boost.
I played the neck pickup (mostly…
) with the tone on bass around half rolled on.
WOW! Nice sound- warm, lush, and nice at volume 4. The knobs have six markings and a mark at 0, so they go up to TWELVE, I reckon- 2,4,6 (noon), 8,10,12. Take THAT Nigel Tuffnel!! (sic).
Went up to halfway (6?
). NOICE! some real heft to the low end- at this point it gets loud! Some air was beginning to move. I engaged the Ultra Bright. Really nice tweak, that- gives a little definition to the high end- not overpowering, but “right” for certain rooms; different basses would like it too, perhaps!
Ran an extended aux input test with my iPhone. Max (9) wanted to hear his favorite…Sweet.. (the wife and I are to blame…he really digs Queen as well) so I cued up “Little Willy” and wasn’t shy about volume for a bit- 
. Checked out some Steeleye Span as well. Volume control is at the source device, so be sure you’re good before plugging in!
I’ll report more as it occurs- will be checking out headphones and aux in a day or two. SGT May make an appearance! Probably try to run through “Baker Street”…been listening to some Rafferty. Great mind!

Always liked "Baker Street". Props to the band for sounding just like the record. Especially for the sax man for making that tenor sax sound exactly like the alto sax on the original, and for the guitarist getting the 'fall-offs' w/o moving his fret hand.

I officially sold the R100 yesterday afternoon. A nice guy who promised that it’ll be played and loved. He was really excited, especially after he saw how clean it was.
Never fret, Rumblers, I’m still the proud owner of my Stage 800 and 115 cab and those aren’t going anywhere. But the place does look less-cluttered!
Let’s continue on to Post 900,

You’re up, Morrighan. Think old school tone meeting your basses and all of them getting along great. For all your jazzy playing, this would be an excellent alternative to your squeaky clean PJB gear.

I know, I know! The RB 15 ticks all the boxes for me. The only thing that bothers me about it is the SGT. And not because I wouldn't use it, or like it. It's because as soon as I see those three letters in that order the automatic response is "Save-Get"
Ancient computer stuff. Extinct, I believe ... hope ....... kind of running out of space for amps ...
The Elf (yes I know, mine is a head but same deal for the combo) the Elf's native tone tells me it comes with when we're gonna boogie. Instead of a 4x10, I've got two 2x7 for a modular 4x7. The rig is astonishingly loud, and my wager is the Elf combo and an extension cab ... yes it do the job.
And yet, a 15 inch combo and man alive that Rocket is one sharp looking combo

Beautiful Combo and I'm certain it sounds as good as it looks.
LJB, long time no hear from. How ya been? Yeah, some of us have been raving about the new combo on the block. The Rocket Basses look to be a home run for Ampeg/Yamaha, but can these and the Fender Rumbles live in harmony on this blue orb we call Earth? I say, yes we can!
