Good analogy. When I had my 112 cab hooked up to my 200c(at the same volume setting), it was-maybe-a little louder. But much fuller.(I've done the same thing by daisy chaining the 200c>100-hadda cut volume, though)

There is a lot of disagreement about perceived volume vs actual volume. For example my 300 watt amp is noticeable louder than my 225watt amp was. Twice as loud? 25% louder? Hard to say. All I can say with any certainty is that is just louder.
Perceived volume has a lot to do with the individual’s hearing as well as what part of the music they are actually paying attention to. And of course I think having more cabinets does matter. It’s like the equivalent of lighting a room with a single beam of light versus putting a diffuser in front of it. Same amount of light but one is going to be perceived as much brighter.

Excellent analogy, WBB. I’ll even toss in how heavy or light you play the bass. For me, it’s a super light touch and they will affect perceived volume as well.

Total sense, LJB, and I respect your point. Between the Ampeg and Fender amps you may not notice a volume difference, but I can assure you that you’ll hear the tonal difference. The sound between my former R100 and current RB112 is night and day.

We go back on the 23 as well, although we don't start teaching until the following week. I have some stuff that will keep me busy until then, but, unfortunately, it is not fun stuff.

On the positive side, my new partner and I had a great summer and I just played my lovely Hofner for 2 1/2 hours!

Life is good, my man. I’m so happy for ya, both with a new relationship and bass time!

Be on the lookout in the next day or two. I’m gonna send ya something I’m currently working on that is all violin bass. I wouldn’t even think of trying another one. Love your thoughts on it.

Hi Doc! I was thinking of you in that school reflection. How soon do you guys up north get started? We launch Monday, August 23rd, masking optional and in our own classrooms. We’ll see how long it lasts, but I’m crossing my fingers ‘cuz my room is ready to go.

Our school started two weeks ago. Was going to send the 1st grader (6YO) back to class, but….decided to pull back (literally) at last minute and home school both again this year. Ooohhh…

That would get you in the classic country realm for sure. Contemporary settings? I go with an almost straight up rock setting. That's really what it is now anyways... Oh man did I say that?

Yup! Let ‘er Rip. I need a straight, old, Classic early 60s style P to get that later Byrds tone..

I’ll give the bright switch that, GP. Unlike so many other switches, dials, and buttons, that one really makes a change in your sound. So does the vintage.

I’ve heard of some players using both buttons at the same time, but for me, if my bass is sounding muddy I add the Hi, but if I’m looking for that. If fat bottom, I use the Lo instead. I myself would leave the mid knob either alone or give it a slight boost if the Ultra Lo is on. It’s quite deep and and cuts mids too. Here’s the manual:

9. ULTRA LO: This switch, when engaged, enhances the amount of low-end output with a 1 dB boost at 40 Hz, and a 10 dB cut at 500 Hz (RB-112, RB-115, RB-210.

The beautiful part is set everything flat and off when you begin playing. Then, try what I’ve recommended (or anyone else for that matter), and then begin tweaking said knobs/switches until your ears go, “You’ve got it!” Heck, you may not like anything I’ve offered, but it’s still a great place to start. Let us know how it turns out.

Great old school fingerstyle Motown tone that one!! Using minimal boost, but some… amount of comp.

VINTAGE is(almost)always on. BRIGHT depending on room acoustics, but often.

Amp wattage vs perceived sound increase (db’s or SPL) aren’t linear. Adding 10% more wattage doesn’t increase 10% more db. In fact you have to double the wattage to only get a 3db increase in SPL. Which is a barely perceivable increase. So you can only compare double wattage amps. Ie 250w vs 500w vs 1000w. The difference in real world loudness between a 225w and a 300w amp is negligible, especially if they are using the same 300w class D power amp module!

LOL! I am in the RF industry. For the last 35 years I have fought off customers who want 100 watts not 50 watts! I'm like sure thing, sir, and it isn't gonna help. Trying to explain db/dbm to the uninitiated is an exercise in futility.

GP. Are you saying here that you daisy chained the Rumble 200c to a Rumble 100c? Why did you cut the volume and was the volume cut on the R200c only?
