I must be looking in all the wrong places...where in the US can you find new Cort basses that are NOT the cheapest of the cheap models or the horrible Gene Simmons axe monstrosity?

Would like to help you, but seems like no one sells Cort basses in the US... And it's a bit estrange because down in the south we have a lot of models to choose from, all the Artisan, Arona, GB and Action lines in 4 and 5 bangers, even the Custom and Special Edition ones... Maybe you can buy it here and have it send to the US...

Hi all, I was pointed over here 'cause I'm looking at a Cort 5 string as a 'cheap' gig-bass. Here are a couple shots of it- it was allegedly made in the 80s. Any advice, thoughts, remarks? I'm looking for an experienced eye to call out an earmark or two that would recommend it as a relatively, probably wise purchase. Here's the bass, and thanks for your time:

I do not know the model, but to me those pickups seem to be in a humbucker format made for 6 string guitars. I suspect they ARE off the shelf guitar pickups, probably used to keep cost down. It may be a less than optimal choice, IMHO.

Hello guys.
Can someone help me with this? I play recently that Action V bass and really like the sound for only 199 euros .The sounds is way better from the two Epiphones Cobys(Black at 156 euros and walnut at 199).
Is this version of the V action older from the model in their site?
The deference i see is that the photo bass have high mass bridge which i prefer from the L shape that the bass in their site have.Is any other deference between the basses?
And the pickups is single coils or hummbackers?

Well that may not be so bad actually- what I'm really about is a good chassis. I can 'get away' with silly p'ups for a bit if the playability is good. I had Selects on a bass once and liked them pretty well. The guitar 'buckers might not be so far off.

Those are jazz style single coils, only The Action V DLX has hambuckers... They're great basses for the buck

What's the asking price for it? Current Cort products are pretty good, IMHO, so my guess is that a used 80s Cort bass should be significantly cheaper than a new one of about same specs.

Cort had pickups sourced/made to spec for Ibanez and Hohner, among others, and Ibanez used EMG pickups and elecs in some models made in the Korean Cort factory then.
Those are definitely humbuckers, and look like the ones (dual-coils) they installed in some Hohner basses. Any name could be on the same pickups, tho. Some sound pretty good, so give them a good chance before just swapping them out. From what I've seen, Cort assembled their basses mostly from sourced parts also used in other's basses- at any level of quality, so you just never know 'til you check 'em out.
Also, a better shot of the pickups and the label/writing on them would help.

I've got mine back today, after it has get a Noll TCM-3 Preamp/EQ as an Upgrade. Ruediger Ziesemann from Bassline Basses also buildt in a Mini Switch wich does: Parallel / Single Coil (Outer Coil from the MM PU) / Series Mode. I've had Band Practice this Eveneing and I feel and am convinced, the Money was well spent. Much more Detail there...Warmth in Parallel Mode, More Bite in Series Mode. Very nice Jazz alike Sound in Single Coil Mode with Volume Knob switched to passive Mode.

I have an Arona 5 OPBB too (as well as a 4). What surprised me when I got it, is that I found it quite heavy (about 4.5kg), while I keep reading how light they are. In fact, my Arona 4 is also very light, which is why I ordered the 5. It's still a nice bass, but I'm a bit disappointed about the weight. How is it possible to have such a variation in weight in the same model?

I'm sure this has been discussed may times here on talkbass....... The wood used in bass bodies comes from trees. Trees are living things and no two trees are identical. Even from the same tree there is variation in the density of the wood. These naturally occurring variations may result in visually identical instruments having different weight and tonal properties. If you're looking for exact uniformity between individual instruments you'll have to get a bass manufactured from materials other than wood (graphite is a viable alternative). The inherent variations in wood is why the phrase "play before you buy" is so common here on talkbass.
