If the wood was the only difference, I would agree, but also variations in the manufacturing process and tolerances in the quality control may cause differences, too.

The OP seems to be disappointed in "such a variation in weight in the same model". I can't recall ever experiencing QC issues or variance in mfg process that caused a noticeable weight difference within the same model instrument (of course YMMV). I have felt noticeable weight differences in two planks of wood of the same species and size (a simple visit to your local DIY store / lumber yard should validate this).
Back to bass guitars, I doubt the "variations in the manufacturing process and tolerances in the quality control may cause differences" is the primary reason these 2 new Ibanez SR300 basses have noticeably different weights. What could cause 2 identical basses to have this variance? This SR300 weights 6 lbs 13 oz and this one weights 7 lbs 14 oz. Ibanez is known for uniform QC, both basses have identical hardware and electronics. I seriously doubt the difference in orange or grey paint can account for over a pound difference on the same year, same model instruments. Only logical conclusion is the weight/density of the wood used to construct the bass.

I was merely commenting on the reasons for "try before you buy", and that wood selection is not the only reason for that advice. I agree that weight differences between samples of the same model is due to wood.
weight differences happens in every brand out there. My A5 OPBC is light and confortable but I tried a A5 natural at a store and it was heavy as an anchor...

Fairly recent convert to the Cort members club. Purchased an A4 LTD 18months ago and am needing a bit of info. In what way were they "Ltd" and are the Hipshot tuners 3/8" or 1/2". The bass itself reminds me of my old 80's Ibanez Studio bass which I foolishly sold many years ago. Much appreciated

I just love the Artisans. They look and feel like top notch instruments and this looks like no exception. The value for money is great.
I have tried to google this to find what's limited, but there isn't much to find (which kind of is a sign that it is limited). My guess would be a combination of the selected hardware and that beautiful, dark mahogany body.
I also agree, they are "limited" because of the wood/hardware combination (regular A4/A5 has black tuners) and maybe the fact that they were crafted in Korea, not Indonesia.
But they don't craft Cort guitars in Korea since 2004 or 2005, they mainly use the factories at Indonesia, even for they're top of the line guitars.
That's why this maybe a special run, as they use Korean factories to craft for other brands like Lakland...
But the serial starts with 04, which is also the case with my C4 with a wenge neck, which is also a LTD ed. made in Korea. So I guess this is also a 2004 model, and therefore from the time when they made them there.

I love the sound. It has some great woody growl that is very similar to a Warwick. Bought from Dr. Cluck on Ebay for $429 with gigbag. Perfectly set up with very low action right of the box. I've played $1000+ basses that don't feel this nice. The MK1 pre is adequate but I think I might look into upgrading. Overall I'm extremely happy with my purchase.
Has anybody any thoughts on the Arona 4.

Just got my first Cort yesterday. Picked up a B4 20th Anniversary from Ebay and love it.
It took me a while to track one down, but I am in LOVE with my GB! Just swapped the knobs and added another pot for the mids (didn't like the stacked pot I used first). Loaded with an OBP3, this thing is killer! I think I'm done with the colorful strings, but it's still pretty cool.

Nice one! Ore you using tapewounds? I have a GB5 with 1/4 pounders and was thinking bout installing an OBP3 on it, also in terry in it with tapewounds or Flatwounds...
