The CORT Club (Part 2)

Maybe this would have been a better thread to post this to... I'm looking for schematics for my 2001 B4FL. Cort's site only has 2006/2009 schematics which has a much different electrical layout than my 2001 model. Anybody have access to these schematics, or know where to look? I've already attempted to contact Cort's US distributor, but it seems they are closed 'til Monday.

Also, I've been a member of the Cort Club for 15 years now! :D Father bought me a Curbow 4 in '99 for xmas and I haven't looked back since! Here are some poopy pictures I took...

That Cort B4FL sure is pretty- (as is the rest of the family).
Really nice grain and finish.
Is that a switch or knob shaft on the bottom left of the control knob set?
The C5P I have has the same knob layout, but there's a stacked pot there for the piezo controls.
The Cort C5P that I picked up not long ago has the same finish, but not the nice grain like yours. Same body shape, tho.
One day, I'll upload some px to join the Club.

Today I just purchased a 2002 B5 from a friend.

He had it in his studio and I used this bass in his recordings (I was some kind of "hired gun" in his home recordings). I asked him to give me a call if he wanted to sell it one day.

I wanted a new 5 strings and I liked the sound nd the feel of that bass... I forget about it until last month. My friend told me that he was selling some gear because he was moving from his house...

Now it's mine!!

Does it have the serial number on the back of the headstock? if it does, it will provide the info you need. The first two numbers are for the year the instrument was made, the next two go for the month. Let us know what you find out, and pics of the serial number would be greately appreciated :) .

Well, it is an Artisan, and its neck through construction suggest it is one of the better ones. The hardware and electronics is not that different from my bolt on Cort Artisan C4 2005 LTD edition with a wenge neck. I would guess it's from around the same time. The balance and playability is great and easily rivals Warwicks that retails for the double of what these cost. The pickups are powerful, but not super detailed, but with the EQ, it is very versatile.

I got a Cort a4 - custom z model yesterday. My first cort and active bass it is. I got a question..


I couldnt totally understood which knob does what, here is a picture i prepared below. Can you guys tell me please what function does 1-2-3-4-5 do in the picture? Thanks! :)

Nice looking bass.
Based on similar control layout of [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] made in Cort factory (they may not be identical, but I'd bet function is similar):
3 master volume
2 Pick selector / pan control (rotate toward neck for neck, toward bridge for bridge pickup)
1 - 4 - 5 are tone controls boost /cut for treble, mid, bass (play with them it will be apparent what the do if they're working).
The switch between 1 - 2 is most likely used change the shape of the mid control range (see bottom of page on link to Ibanez).
Of course there is a distinct possibility I'm completely wrong, my Cort C5 is old and passive .:thumbsup:

Thanks for the info! Speaking of the electronics I did find it strange that the pickup selector is wired backwards! I couldn't figure out why I couldn't get the dark tone that I wanted and knew the instrument was capable of. I had begun to think that the neck pickup was bad! Then in messing around I discovered that if I rolled the selector forward to the bridge and tapped on the neck pickup I could hear it and tapping on the bridge pickup produced nothing, rolled it back and vice versa! Weird, but at least now I'm getting the tone I was looking for!!!

thanks very much, i wasnt aware of the pick selector, i thought is a kind of tone control as in fender basses (the one under volume controls). I am learning :)
its made in indonesia and made in 2012, the craftmanship is not brilliant but good, overall its a nice bass for that price.
any string suggestions, since the stock strings are not in a very good condition.. should i go with daddario nickel wound strings? (i prefer 105/45)

For round wound I've had good luck with Elixir strings (started using them in 2003, before that I generally used D'Addario Nickels). With the Elixirs I like the balanced tone, feel and they last a long time (years for me). For flats I've used D'Addario Chromes for decades (literally had one set on 5 different basses over 25 years). My $0.02 & YMMV IME strings are a very personal love it or leave it thing.

I'll have to throw up a picture of my Cort B4. I started out with the used Peavey AC BXP. Next, I got a used Ibanez SR700. After that I bought the B4 used, took it all apart, sanded and finished the body with a light danish oil, bought some wood pickup covers which i put split coil fender super 55's in, wood knobs, and made a wood thumb rest placed where I wanted it, and made a wood overlay for the headstock. I play the B4 every Sunday and seldom pick up the other basses anymore even when just noodling at home. The B4 neck size is perfect for me - not too thin like the Ibanez, also not as chunky as a P bass - it's just right. I also think the sound I get from this neck is more to my liking than an all maple neck. I have Fender 9050CL flatwounds on it ( and two of my other basses ). My serial Number is 05098006 made in Korea - I'm guessing than means September of 2005??? Anyway, my present thinking is that if I ever buy another bass, it would be a Cort A4, but the B4 is doing just fine for the two years I've had it.

Hello everyone in the club,
I bought a Cort JP5 recently.
Nice bass, but previous owner had installed a different electronics on the bass so he removed it before shipping and sent the original one in a bag.
Surprise surprise, a pot is missing and I have no idea or clues about its value.
Three pots are 50k (the EQ ones I guess), another one is 100k.
Few solderings are missing.
Could anyone tell me the exact value of the five pots and photograph the circuit ?
It would be so kind, thanks anyone.
