Hey folks - I've owned several Cort Artisans over time and sold them to fund the purchase of other basses/gear. The one thing that I didn't like was the spacing on the 5er at around 16.5mm. Can anyone confirm with me the newer ones with the Hipshot Transtone bridge have 18mm?
Also in relation to the current bunch of A4/A5 models, is the finish bare wood or does it have some sort of thin lacquer? I had one briefly in the Open Pore Red and can remember it had either a satin or oil finish but can't exactly remember. My sweat destroys oil finishes but a satin finish would be safe.

Picked up a Cort Curbow MR-4 yesterday. Probably one of the worst decisions I've made in quite some time. LOL That bass is horrible. Bridge saddles are bottomed out and you could still fly a jumbo jet between the strings and fretboard. 14th and 15th fret on the D string are the same note. Any note on the G string has a sustain that can be measured in fractions of a second. Hoping I won't be stuck with this thing for too long. I'm sure there are plenty of great Cort basses out there but this one is hands-down the worst bass I've ever owned.

Traded for it. Got it used. I've fiddled with it for hours trying to get the action right. Shimmed the neck pocket twice and it's somewhat playable now but barely. Now the input is crackling and shorting out. Best thing for this I believe is to take it into the woods and throw it over a cliff. After I stomp the sh-- out of it. The sound is weak. Especially on the E string and G strings. I bought the bass primarily for slapping and without those 2 strings having any guts to them it's pretty much pointless. I've had some pretty bad basses in my time but they were usually fixable to a point. This one is beyond me.

If you loosen all the strings and let it rest a bit, is the neck straight or close to it? If not, is it possible to straighten it by tightening the truss rod? I don't have a Curbow myself, but I have read quite a bit about them, and I have never heard that people need to shim them.

I had a Cort Curbow and the luthite body ended up warping. When it was new it sounded pretty good, very funky. I tried to shim the neck, and that's when I discovered the curve in the body. It wasn't unplayable but I wasn't using it so I let it go on here to a guy who was going to try to straighten it out. The worst thing about it was the plastic smell it constantly gave off.

I relayed the issues with the bass to the guy I traded with and he's going to take it back. Thank God. That's it. I'm done dealing with used equipment. Helpful tip: If a guitar player tells you a bass looks, sounds and plays great, run away as fast as you can. lol
