I tried the Cort Action A (4 string) and is surprised by the very light weight. Just a tiny bit heavier than the SR300 hanging next to it. Tested it in the shop (sitting down) and feels a bit unbalanced (body too light). Can anyone comment on whether the Action series balances well on strap or is it prone to neck dive?
No neckdive at all, because the horn is long enough.
The neck is comfortable as well. When I started having trouble with carpal tunnel like symptoms, I found I can play the Cort longer than I can my RIC.

@Killed_by_Death Thanks for the info! Yeah the neck feels good. The weight is definitely a plus, for those crowded bus/train journeys to rehearsals...
If I'm at a shop that has straps, I will just go grab a strap & put it on my potential target, just to be sure if it has neck dive or not.
I made that mistake with my G&L ASAT & that thing has serious neck dive. The telecaster shaped body didn't have a horn long enough to counteract the lightweight body.

My new Cort Electric Bass. The guy I purchased from said it's a 1985. He also said it was USA-made, which can't be true, so he could be wrong about the date too. The pick guard appears to be homemade. I'm not sure if the body is original either: the neck mount seems to be missing a part. Anybody know why this is?
Anyone who can tell me more about this bass I'd appreciate it. Got it for 100.
UPDATE: I wasn't getting any replies here so I re-posted in the main forum. If you recognize this guitar from over there, yeah it's the same one. Still open for all the input I can get though.

Corts are all Asian...no Americans ever...also, it's likely a 90's bass (if it's original). The pickguard is likely original to the body but possibly painted. That "Missing" piece on the back isn't missing. Your bass has a neck tilt adjustment, but it appears to be stripped. The neck looks newer than the body, though...so it may be a parts bass.

Yeah I figure if/when I get the neck off maybe I can date it... then compare dates to the pots and whatever else has a time stamp on it. Maybe there's even some serial numbers in there somewhere. Anyway, that won't be till I change the strings.
When you say "stripped" do you mean the tilt adjustment may no longer be usable? or is the mechanism just missing a component... ?
As for the pick guard I think the salvaged look of it fooled me.

Last time I check, D'Addario strings are still American products. On certain upper model, Cort uses American Bartolini instead of their in house pickups or Seymour Duncan instead of Duncan Designed pickups.
All I know is they make a pretty reliable toaster oven. My .02no Americans? ever?

I see hex flats on the outer part of the tilt screw, but it may need a thin wall socket.
Nice looking P style. All the Cort (Korean) made basses I've had have been very well made with no fitment issues that some 'name' basses are plagued with. The components (bridges, pickups, etc) are to spec for the company they contract to build for. Seems like they choose the best of their avail components for the pricepoint on basses they put their name on.

Hi, I own a GB74, i'm very happy with it, always found it very comfortable. But I begin to miss a good pasive bass!

My second Cort and bass number 27. Short scale. Picked this one up at the pawn shop for $60. Its in really good condition. Plywood with a nice cross section with the red clear coat. I was quite surprised with the sound. 5.8 lbs Realy light.
Ordered a set of GSF pickups from Guitar Fetish and D'Addario half rounds. I have box of Alpha pots and box of bridges.

Just looking on the Cort website and can't find the C4H's and C5H's on there. Were they discontinued?
This raises a good point. I wish Cort kept a list of previous models. I have an Artisan neckthru 4 string that highly resembles a cross between an Ibanez and a Spector (even has the HAZ-clone preamp used in the Spector NS2A). I wish I knew the year and could find more out about it.
I found very little about the C5P (P for Piezo) I picked up a while ago. Has dark satin trans finish, oval abalone markers and Fishman piezo bridge with Fishman preamp. Nothing thin or tinny about the piezo system- must be the matched Fishman system.
