I must say that I dont like tort on black but I am in the minority. The black metal looks really good to me. Almost as if there was no PG at all. My P is Black with WBW PG and rosewood.

Depends on the fretboard to me. Rosewood, I prefer tort but like white (w/b/w) as well. Maple, I like black (b/w/b). I voted tort because that is what I have on my black P-bass.

Now (I'll duck first) but what's all the love for tort guards out there? I've just taken one of my new Jazz: personally I hate tort guards! They look rather too gaudy and a bit like a slab of bolognese sauce to me, but each to their own I suppose. Happy to be in the minority on that one but for me it's definitely a case of the the emperor having not clothes!

I'm right there with you. I will never put a tort pickguard on my bass. I'm all about the white whether you have rosewood or maple.
Black on black is too much black, why even bother having a pickguard? (aside from the obvious, holding the electronics, protecting the bass, blah blah blah )

I was inspired after I originally seen the Rosewood pickguard a few months ago. My luthier has just ordered a piece of Bubinga which he is going to use to make a pickguard and also laminate a matching headstock.

Black on Black, I had the white one when I got It, but when I put the Flalin pickup in it I got the black pick guard too!

Yeah, his guitar has a lot of personality. The pickup he replaced was the single coil at the back of his strat for an aged white Gibson-esque humbucker.
