Yes there are many gig bag threads already. I get that and I think I've read nearly all and found them helpful. But at the same time none seem to be very current and several gig bag models discussed are no longer made and others have entered the market since several of the older threads were created.

I'm in the market for a high quality bag. I am looking for maximum protection. I don't need tons of storage. I'm not super concerned about weight though lighter is certainly favorable. If you have experience with the various options out there please chime in. Indulge me (and the many other who will no doubt read this later.)

I'm very interested in the following:

Fusion Urban

Reunion Blues Continental

iGig 525


I'd really like feedback on the Fusion. Doesn't seem to be a lot out there yet. Anybody with real experience? Looks very cool and seems very well made.

Certainly the Continental is one of the tried and true standards out there. Seems like good protection but not around the end pin area.

I don't think I like the handle of the iGig with the two pieces velcroed to together.

So I guess give me the ins and outs of these bags. I don't think I like the Mono line since I'm looking for max protection. I'm sure some will chime in recommending the Access bags.

So what's new and what's best?

I am not familiar with your options so I am just going to muddy the water some more... I have a high quality Levy's gigbag that my Dingwall came in, it's fantastic and has thick padding. I don't know the model offhand but I would buy another. I have a MONO M80 dual bass case which is really nice, I would use their products again. Mind you, if you have a nitro bass the mono headstock holder will leave marks if you leave the bass in the case for extended periods.

I just watched the Fusion promotional video for the Urban. Looks to be well-designed in many ways but I wonder about what looks to be a very limited amount of headstock clearance. Looks as if the bass pictured in the video is a 34" scale with very little room to spare. My favourite case protection-wise is, without a doubt, the Portabag but it's not the most comfortable bag to have on your back for any extended period of time.

Agreed, for protection it's hard to beat the Portabag. For comfort I'd take a Mono Vertigo or one of my old RB leather gig bags.

I'm a huge fan of the Fusion. I stupidly sold mine as I thought I'd be happy with the Sadowsky Ultralight my new bass came with. I REALLY miss the Fusion and am gonna take the hit amd buy another.
Firstly, it is very lightweight. Before it I bought a Protec Contego and sent it back without it leaving the house.
The Fusion has a good amount of storage, with three front pockets stacked on top of each other. The pockets aren't deep, but are plenty big enough for cables, batteries, strings, straps, tools and paper. You couldn't get a Boss pedal in there without a squeeze. The Fusion also come with an elasticated rain cover that is easy to pop on. I never used it as I'm sure the case is waterproof in all but the the most torrential rain with out it. But, it's there if you are caught in a storm!

It has a very well padded carry strap and VERY well padded shoulder straps. It is really comfortable.

The neck support is great, really thick padding and moveable. You've probably seen in the pictures, it has a strip of padding on the inside which you can take out and move about to fit your bass.

For reference, I used it with a 34" Sandberg VM5. With the additional padding it was a perfect fit. I think for a 35" or more or bass with massive tuning pegs it might be a bit tight round the headstock.

I want a MONO Vertigo, to see what the fuss is about but my Sadowsky has a nitro neck and I'm a little nervous having read some of the horror stories.

Honestly, there was nothing I disliked about the Fusion. I only sold it to free up some cash for a Boss OC2 and because I was sure the Sadowsky case would do what I wanted.

The only thing stopping me buying another right now is the nagging feeling that I should try a MONO... or get a Hiscox.

I thought the RB continental protected my instruments very well I liked the bag but the cons for me were: weight it was a bit heavier than I would've liked, the storage pocket was ok but I would've preferred more space as my micro head was a tight fit and lastly when I carried the bag on my back via shoulder straps it was a bit high and I often had to tuck through door ways.

I'm using Rock Ready gig bags with the extended backpack from Osiamo.
The RB offered better protection in my opinion. The gig bags I prefer are no longer made from Incase.
Just to add I don't recommend the Rock Ready bag if you have an angled head stock as it has less clearance.
