The Doom Metal Bassist Thread

Could someone define "Doom Metal" ?

Straight from Wiki:

"Doom metal is a form of heavy metal music that typically employs very slow tempos, low-tuned guitars and a much 'thicker' or 'heavier' sound than other metal genres. Both the music and the lyrics intend to evoke a sense of despair, dread, and impending doom.

The genre is strongly influenced by the early work of Black Sabbath, who formed a prototype for doom metal with songs such as "Black Sabbath" and "Into the Void". During the first half of the 1980s, a number of bands from England (Pagan Altar, Witchfinder General) and the United States (Pentagram, Saint Vitus, Trouble) defined doom metal as a distinct genre."

Check out Thrones; the only member is Joe Preston, former bassist for the Melvins and High on Fire. Here's a list of videos of Thrones live: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=thrones+joe+preston&search_type=&aq=f. I'm working on a one-man band myself which will involve some heavy sludgy doom metal, albeit my "l33t" factor is nonexistent right now until I record something.
I was lucky enough to see Preston with High on Fire on the Blessed Black Wings tour. Saw em with Kylesa

Oh and has anyone checked this::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
