The concierge at the hotel in Chennai, India begged me not to walk out of the hotel, and said they would get me a cab.
It was a pretty stark contrast walking out of a 5 star hotel into the streets that were lined with vendors selling all kinds of things.

Nowadays international flights sometimes go over the top of the planet instead of going across it. I guess it saves on the distance travelled.
