I haven't played many truly vintage basses. Store owners don't like it when teens go to pick up vintage instruments.

When I was a teen they weren't vintage they were new

The Epi Explorer is a great bass. It's not perfect, but it is a very good bass for the money.

I thought it was great when they first came out in natural [I never played any of the black ones], the V was cool too. I have a Epi Rivoli which is a killer bass........ Once I changed the pickup out.

I didn't really like the V. But, I love the explorer.

Vs are a thing you either like or don't, that goes with the guitars as well, the shape gives them that "V" sound and some people don't know how to hold them. Plus with mass-produced instruments you sometimes have to dig to find a good one.
