Ha, I was looking for a photo of your bass a few months ago. Horus is the most badass of the Explorers!
The Dean's are pretty nice. Check Ebay for Ibanez Destroyer. I paid under $350 for mine. I haven't had to make any changes. Serious bang for the buck.
I thot about a destroyer i love ibanez but i didnt know if they were any good. thanks a lot Mr-Wunderful.

Oh, and Gavnel, the Epis are pretty darn good. I've never played an original, but I've played some pretty nice basses, and it is pretty good in comparison. Definitely worth the $400
The Destroyer is a very well made bass. It's very comfortable and it feels very unique. Apart from looking cool, it's a solid instrument, but keep in mind that it's 32" scale. If it were longer, the neck would have a Jazz bass feel to it.
The most interesting thing to me is the variation in sound between the D/G and A/E strings from having a DiMarzio-style P pickup on a short scale bass. The top strings sound very crisp and the bottom strings sound a lot looser than normal. It might not be what you're looking for, but it's a really interesting instrument.
ESP/LTD also makes a very pointy Explorer bass. If I were into EMG humbuckers, I might want one.
I have looked at the ESP one a couple times it looks nice but couldnt find a good review of it. I am glad to hear that the epiphones are nice since i have drooled over them for the past two month. i am planning on getting a bass at the end of next month I would like a v or explorer body. I have wanted both since i started playing a year ago. Does the destroyer or the epiphone have a 80s thrash metal sound to it because thats what im looking for?
Go for the explorer. I don't know if the Epis are good for thrash metal...it sounds kinda like a p-bass, except more punchy. It sounds like a thunderbird.
Although, using an explorer for thrash metal...I don't see how you can go wrong. It certainly LOOKS appropriate.
I played the Epi reissue Explorer the other day and was immediately cured of my GAS for one. The fingerboard is WIDE. Really wide. Then, to make matters worse, flat as all hell. Totally uncomfortable to my hand.
I wish i could thoughThat sucks almost as much as pre-cal homework. (I'm 17). IMO, they feel kinda like a precision.
You can't trust anonymous reviews...what does another person's opinion matter if you like a specific instrument? To hell with what others think--get something that YOU want, man.
Both the Epiphone and LTD Explorers have humbuckers. I imagine they can both sound pretty versatile.
Plus, the epis have a pickup switch, which, if you turn down the volume on one of the pickups, can be a kill switch. I generally leave it on full with the switch in the middle.
