O ya that switch would be super nice to have i never thot of using it as a kill switch. I have a squire p bass and i dont mind the feel of it i think im going to get deffinatly look more in the epiphone direction.

do you know how much a soft case would cost for one of these or if an acoustic guitar case would work?
I use an 88 key keyboard case for my Alembic. It was $200, but Alembic wanted $600. I had to remove all the padding and make my own, shaped to fit the bass. Not much help if you're 17 and can't afford the bass to begin with. Maybe you can find a bass gig bag in the right shape, I haven't looked. My Gibson has the original case, it's about 9 feet long and weighs more than a bus.

I found a reasonable gig bag built for the Explorer on Ebay. The seller was great and shipped it right away. The bag is decent and works well for local gigs, with plenty of space for charts, cords, etc.

Interesting. I'm used to seeing that model of Destroyer with the "Smooth Tuner BII" that is common with the later Roadstars. Must have been made before they made the tuner switch because in 1984, the Roadstars stopped using the VT BII.
As far as cases go, I picked up a coffin bass case at a local pawn shop for about $30 and with a slight modification the bass fit great.
Since "near mint" in a used bass add usually means "dropped down the stairs," this one in the CL ad may have been dragged behind a bus for 3 miles. It's only $100 cheaper than the new ones. Guess it depends what the "free gig bag" is worth to you.
My Alembic was made in 1985. They have 20+ years of experience with the shape. Used Alembics aren't too expensive; actually they can be great deals for what you're getting. Ordering a custom, on the other hand, will be pricey. Very few custom builders are as custom as Alembic. I prefer their Exploiter design to the basic Gibson Explorer because it positions the neck more comfortably, has 24 frets, and those frets are all clear of the body for easy access.
Outside of the US, there are Gaskell and Listerud as shown on previous pages, and whoever made Mr. M's bass. Warwick does have a custom shop also, and they have been making their knock-off of Alembic's Exploiter body shape for at least a few years now.
