Well seeing that I got $150 off on the amp and have seen (heard) what good tubes can do the the sound of a amp. I just ordered two matched sets of TAD 6L6GC-STR's, a JJ ECC81, and a matched set of JJ ECC83-S / 12AX7's.

It sounds nice now but this should bring out all the tubey goodness in this great amp.

I guess I'm just not in tune with it to know what to listen for. The one time I spent an evening with a guy who was comparing tubes, I honestly couldn't hear a difference in the power tubes. The preamp tubes I did, but this is what I don't understand; from my experience with tubes, they don't start warming up until around 30 hours, and at least with the tube mastering gear I've got they don't really develop their character until around 100 hours. It's not like an enormous difference, but at least as much as I was hearing between the preamp tubes this guy was comparing. So what I don't get is I don't think I could choose a tube unless I could hear it after it's burned in. But I guess after you've had experience with them you'll know what their going to do.

Hey Freight Train, I have a 68 Telecaster bass. Haven't tried it with the 100T yet but you have given me a nudge in that direction now. It is the only one of my basses not strung with TI flats at the moment and man does it pack some punch! :D

I was sure they would have gotten these over 101dB sensitivity to help out the new 100 watt head, but I believe the Fender neo's are around 96dB spl @ 1w/1m. The cab came in last week so I've only been practicing with until last night when the new band rehearsed. Absolutely loved the sound of the cab, but I'm still concerned about it's efficiency matched with the 100T in a live situation. The new band is a typical classic rock cover kinda thing, guitar player has a '72 100 watt Twin, and we're all seasoned players so we don't play screaming loud. But we've got an excellent drummer and he thumps it, and I've always been an aggressive out front kind of bassist, so again this is going to be interesting. Of course I'd love to have an excuse to get a second 410, as stacked 410's are my favorite look, but at this point I really want this smaller rig to do all I need when I don't have mains help, as I don't want to lug that much gear around anymore.

I've read all your posts, and the one that lured me into the thread was your first description of the 410 as a "different dimension!" I understand what the ohm meter registered, but what do your ears tell you? Is there an audible sensitivity difference between the Fender and the Hartke? Thanks, Chain! :)

I see Tom Bowlus posted that Fender sent him a neo 610 and Super Bassman 300 for review and he is very impressed. Must watch for the next issue of Bass Gear Magazine. It is interesting that they sent him the 610 rather than the 810 to go with the 300, as I had been informed the 810/300 and 610/100T pairings were their marketing strategy. Confirms to me what a great cab the 610 neo is though, won't be afraid to crank the 100T into it.

Absolutely. It'll be next week before I gig with it. But in rehearsal where I was running the 100t at 5 on input, 3 on master, I had to go just below 5 with the 410 neo. But like I said no comparison, the neo sounded much better.

Well unfortunately fellas I cant give you a loud rock show live report on the 100t. It seems a "friend" played a little joke on me. We were talking before the set about the amp and when I told him this was its first road test on stage he said "ooh, watch out....first show with an amp, expect technical difficulties." And he kinda laughed. I didnt think anything of it cos I thought he was laughing cos of how guys will take an amp they arent yet familiar with to a show and have problems.....but no... He was laughing cos he knew that when I went to get a beer he was going to switch my amp settings....the ones on the back! So I played a loud rock show at 25 Watts instead of a hundred and all night felt disappointed that it wasnt as full as at practice and that it got overdriven too easily. Well of course it did...
Luckily we had foh and people said we sounded awesome.

What a letdown! That is not the sort of person I would call a friend, in fact if someone played with my gear like that I would inflict serious damage on him. Incidents like this justify the inclusion of the word wanker in the dictionary.
I feel really disappointed for you (and for me as I was looking forward to your report). When's the next gig?

Unfortunately not until June sometime. We do have full band practice next week, which will be at show volume. And that is why I put "friend" in quotes. Its ok. We work together tattooing. I will be into work before him on Monday and "retune" all of his tattoo machines before he comes in. dont worry, no actual tattoos will be harmed in the process, he will just spend the day wondering why his machines are being real sputtery and tempermental.

You should go in tonight and do it and then show up after him on Monday. He'll never suspect it was you.

After reading Tom's comments in the other thread about the overdrive channel I have been playing with it some more - far and away the most musical overdrive I have ever tried. The active/modern channel certainly is well worth experimenting with and becoming familiar with for an old plug and play type like myself.
Although the 100T is "only" 100 watts I have come to grips with the fact that this simply means that you crank the amp to a higher setting than I am used to with my bigger tube amps and it still stays clean if you want! This amp really could become a huge seller if Fender get enough of them out there - it almost seems as if they brought it out before they were up to full production since they currently appear to be a little hard to come across.

Hey Chrisan - I was saying that in rehearsal, with input on 5, I had to go to almost 5 on the master volume with the 410 neo to match the volume I was getting with the master on 3 and using the Hartke 410XL. So about 1 3/4 more on the master to get the same volume.

It would appear that then that the 410 is less efficient than the 610? I suppose that makes sense since the 610 has the extra speakers. The Hartke must also be a very efficient cabinet. As I said earlier, the 610 neo appears to compare favorably to my benchmark Bergantino NVs in the sensitivity stakes.
