The Fender Precision bass

Gimme a hallelujah and keep preaching to the choir. I started as a jazz bass guy, emulating the awesome Mel Schacher, but came to realize the Precision as the essence of bass. It only truly comes alive when used in conjunction with a good tube amp. The SVT is the standard, but there are other good ones around...

Did you know that Mel had an EB-0 pickup put where the neck pickup was and never hooked up the bridge pickup? He later did move to P basses.

I can’t argue with this thread. I can only say it is not the ultimate tone for every style of music, but it sure as hell can cover a ton of ground. I am not sure of a more versatile and killing setup than this, so in some ways your controversial title can be defended.

That' s the famous Mel Schacher mod. I heard about it!

Put every pickup you can find on your bass and connect everything…

…make sure you 're not on acid while doing that…

Find out what it does….

Disconnect everything, be happy with the result…

and buy a P bass.

If you incorporate a toggle, you can wire your bass either in cereal or in parallel.

My prayers go out to your BACK! I played 175 to 270 nights a year with a 8-10 SVT cab and MESA Boogie -180. it sounded killer but don't take it on the road if you have to load your own stuff....Hahahahahahahahah

Yeah someday I won’t be able to and I will hate it. Until then, I have a truck and the cab has a dolly built in so it isn’t that bad.

Who knew it back in those days? I bought a Fender P bass in 1970-71 because of the red album cover, I didn't even know it was a Jazz so don't feel bad.
