The Fender Super Bassman 300 thread

I actually just went back a few pages and reread those posts, lol!

We’re not a crazy loud band on stage, and I have a quite large (32,500 watts, 6 EV dual 18’s, 6 EV dual 15+horns, etc) PA system, so I always have full PA support. But we do play large outdoor stages all summer, so it will get a chance to stretch its legs a bit over summer anyway.

Good to hear that it doesn’t need to be cranked to sound good. I need it to sound great at lower volumes too.

I was also looking into the Bassman 800, but I think the all tube SB300 might be more what I’m after.
If I understand what you're after, I would definitely go for the SB300. I have not played the Bassman 800, but starting with 100T, which I still have and absolutely love, I became aware that I was really looking for big clean tube headroom which the SB300 has in spades.

Had a gig last night at a really cool club

2 of the other bands and myself used my sb300 ..it was actually the first time I've gotten to stand back and hear it in a live setting and......yeah .it's as awesome as I thought it was..

Went post eq out to the board and used my 410 as a stage moniter . All I can say is wow . What an amazing amp. The other bands were very pleased as well.

Super Bassman on the left of the drums, with the Bassman 115 under. Sounded amazing as usual

Swapped out my 100T for another Super Bassman. The SB is such a clear winner. Each note is so big and fat and weighty from the E to the G string.
It's pretty much what a bass should sound like live.

Totally agree and did a similar thing years ago when I had both the 100t and the SB300. Ended up selling the 100t because it just never got used once the SB300 arrived. The tone is, as you say, bigger and fatter....and cleaner if loud and clean is your thing.

Well, I think you all have made up my mind.

In my 28 years of playing, this will be the first all-tube head I’ve owned (and I’ve owned a lot of amps). Plenty of tube pre/solid state power, but never all tube.

Time to see what I’ve missed out on, I guess.

I’m going with the Fender Neo 410 to put under it. For my needs, it should be more than enough.

Lovely. Don't discount the 115 Bassman cab tho, if you like the 15 round sound. Tho ..the SB is plenty round already... but, I le double round.
I’ve always been more of a 10’s guy, so I think that’ll better suit me as a single cab solution (I’d get the 610, but it’d be wayyyy overkill for my current needs).

But I’m not ruling out adding the 15 down the road at some point.

I like my SB300 with my Berg NV115s, but love it with the Fender 410 and 610.

I've said it before. My Super Bassman came up for sale locally 2nd hand. I made contact with the guy to try it, but not to buy, only to hear it because of all the all tube love on here. I wanted to dismiss it as hype. I came home gushing to my wife about how good it sounded. I went back and purchased it that week.

Is that a H&H Valvestate amp next to you? I played (more like flogged actually) one of those with a matching H&H 4x12 cab for a few years in the 80's. Not a bad bass amp in them days ☺
Sorry for the OT post while we wait for Ryan to get his amp and drink the kool aid ☺

Think it is ... it sure is an H&H, but is the keys players amp... I only really know it's got reverb, and is 100w and NEVER fails. Not once since he got it WAY back...
Still... he's thinking of getting a newer lightweight combo...
