The Fender Super Bassman 300 thread

I only used the OD channel on about 5 songs, and yes , it was good n gritty... crunchy. . Nicely overdriven. And yes I did footswitch between the 2 channels on a couple songs.
This was just the one gig's settings. For a hard rock band.
I'll often have the blend off & keep the drive outta the 2nd channel completely.
Note the bump in the low mids - I find this helps give me the cut thru and punch in the drive tone that I need.
(Oh and that 2nd pic.. it ain't really all packed up, just there's they dbl Mono gig bag with my gig basses [literally] in this case -- a US Fender Jag & Squier VM P5 - and the Bassman Pro Neo 115 in its cover, the SB300 has his cover removed 4 the pic
How good does the VMP5 sound thru this Amp?! Makes me smile every time.
Even though this amp seems to bring out the best of every bass I play through it, there is just something extra special that goes down between it and my Squire Matt Freeman Pbass
OK after over a year with the SB and 100T I ave finally started using the modern channel. I originally was using the vintage channel with my passive basses and Classic Music Man Basses with flats. But I have started using some G&L active and passive basses. So looking for a bit more modern tone I have begun using the modern channel completely clean no drive etc. I eq it with a little fatter bottom end a use the preamps on the basses to fine tune. I am more and more happy with this amp daily. Love it!

I only use the modern channel (with an Aguilar Tone Hammer w/ the AGS always on). I do, however, blend in the clean channel. Solo’d, it can be a bit crunchy, but in the mix with guitars, drums, and synths, it sounds great. Switching to a bass with flats can mellow it out too.But the modern channel, p-bass with rounds, you’ve got some “Live at Leeds” tones.
So I’ve been looking seriously at moving my Bergantino rig in favor of an Aguilar DB751/DB410 setup. After reading this thread, and listening to all the clips I could find. I’m thinking the SB300 might give me even more of the big, fat tone I’m after.

Yes. The 751 is a great amp and can probably get louder than the SB300, but the Fender is much more versatile and has the tubey presence that the Aguilar (great as it is) doesn’t.
I bought after doing basically the same thing as you, except I was replacing a SVT4Pro. Do not regret and have no foreseeable plans to sell the SB300. FWIW, the Fender sounds great with NV115s.
Man, I can’t see anything needing to be louder than the SB, I think I have killed small animals with the volume of mine.
Sounds great at lower volumes, sounds even better cranked.
You know the Talk Bass rule: BBQ or there is no small animal!

We’re not a crazy loud band on stage, and I have a quite large (32,500 watts, 6 EV dual 18’s, 6 EV dual 15+horns, etc) PA system, so I always have full PA support. But we do play large outdoor stages all summer, so it will get a chance to stretch its legs a bit over summer anyway.
Good to hear that it doesn’t need to be cranked to sound good. I need it to sound great at lower volumes too.
I was also looking into the Bassman 800, but I think the all tube SB300 might be more what I’m after.
