i have a quick question about the 100T but im sure it applies here also. if im plugged into input one, can i plug a cable into input 2 and jump to another amp?

I know Dan Briggs from BTBAM has played the Sunn 300T for years, and recently switched to the Super Bassman for this reason. He didn't dare to take his old Sunn out on the road any more. The feature set apart from the comp and graphic EQ on the two amps seem very similar.

I may be wrong but Ive read that the Fender Bassman 300 Pro was more or less a rebranded Sunn 300T. I'm not familiar with those amps but I believe that there are significant differences between them and the Super Bassman. I've been noticing more and more SB300's being used by pro bassists.

I have played a 300Pro/300T on occasion and own a Super Bassman. IME the two are very different. The 300Pro seemed more aggressive and touch sensitive in the preamp controls to me, the Super Bassman is more user friendly. Certainly the 300Pro goes very, very loud but I had to work to tame it. Possibly if I had more time I could adjust to it but my ears tell me the two are quite different.

I own a SB and owned a 300PRO a few years ago. Yes, agree with @Tim1 that they're VERY different amps.
While I liked the 300PRO, I didn't love it, and I love the Super Bassman.
The 300PRO seemed tighter, less lush and 'tubey' for want of a better word.
The SB is very thick and tubby, just what the Dr ordered, for me at least
In my opinion, the SB is far more like an SVT..... again, I'll use the words lush and tubby.
Both great amps and both massive power and thump. That I've kept the Super Bassman for, ummm, 6 years or so, so far, and I only kept the 300PRO for a year or 2 speaks of how much more I dig the Super Bassman

We all know the old saying that starts, "if it aint broke..."? With that in mind, the Super Bassman is pretty close to the 300T/300 Pro, just with (IMO) extremely cool retro packaging.

I've heard it's a new design compared with the 300pro/T.

In what way is it "pretty close"?


I get that the 2 channels, and blendable overdrive are 2 things common to both amps, but, again, imo.... even tho these 2 things are common to both, they're still VERY different in functionality.
The amps are VERY different in sound too, again... in my opinion/experience

Got to respectfully disagree on that. IME the Super Bassman is nothing like the 300T/300 Pro for the reasons I posted above. Both good amps no doubt, but no way would I consider the SB300 anywhere near to a 300T with "extremely cool retro packaging." Two quite different amps, based on my experience playing both.

Well, in any case, I need to try one out. I recently bought an Aguilar DB 751. Amazing amp in every sense of the word, but it might be too clean for me. Haven't rehearsed with it yet, which might change the way I feel about it.

Aggie 751 has been on my wish list for a long time.

It has an amazing EQ section with the most luscious midrange imaginable. I'm not sure about how much you can drive the gain control, however. Like I said, I need to put it through rehearsal first.

Yes, I would suspect that is correct but the difference between the two preamp sections is quite significant. It is the preamp of the 300T that I struggled with, I think.

Well, again, even the POWER AMP on my SB sounds vastly different than the 300PRO I had. I've tried my SB with a different pre amp, a very transparent one, and it retained its lush tubey sound, something the 300PRO just didn't have. It was more full on punch n power, less tubey vintage sound, in my opinion.
In any case, they're both beasts of amps, enjoy which ever you prefer.

This is exactly my feeling, too. I think that most of us who have played both heads seem to agree that they are far more different than similar.
