The Fender Super Bassman 300 thread

I also have experience with the 400+. I have yet to play my sb300, (as it's a special order) but I will say that with the 400+, sure you have a lot of volume on tap, but in my experience it isn't at all clean headroom. That's a snarly, grunting beast of a head. Which if that's your thing then wonderful, however I was looking for versatility. To me the 400+ is a one trick pony, and since I currently have one in my stable that doesn't get use, I am looking forward to the sb300.
So I found out today, that they no longer make the 610 in Blonde/Oxblood... /sadface
So I decided to go with the standard Black N Silver. At least the default option is still beautiful. Oh well. Good thing that doesnt effect tone!!

At least they let you know instead of sending a mismatched pair (blonde amp/black cab).
Very true. Having mismatched pieces would have drove me crazy.
I'm glad they let me know. It's not like I dislike the black and silver anyway. I just wanted something different.
I went with black n silver simply coz it'd fit in better on the stages I play.

interesting. I use pretty much the same Gain and MV settings, but I rarely need to set the Bass above 7, I have the Mid at5 or 4 depending on the bass being used, and Treble is usually between 5 and 6.
I'm using either a Zon Sonus 5 or Rob Allen Mouse 30. And a 610 cab.
I hadn't even noticed the bass up that high tbh. Probly as I'm just using the 2 AE112 cabs it's a li'l higher than usual.
When running it into my sealed NV412 I'm sure the bass would be set lower.
Whatever the case, it ALWAYS sounds fan-Bloody-tastic!!!!

I have a question for you super bassman owners, I had the front grille off today and noticed the the 12AT7 power tube does not seem to be glowing (V4).The 12AX7 (V3) is, as are all the 6550s . Is this normal? Please excuse my ignorance. Thanks!
Its a low gain tube in a position that doesnt get "driven". Others can give you the technical reasons.
Hell, some 12ax7s in some amps dont glow.
