The Fender Super Bassman 300 thread

I am new to the forum and am considering buying a Fender superbassman or the bassman 100T. In South Africa there is currently only one of each available from the importer and one 810 and one 410 neo cab. I play in a classic rock cover band doing some originals doing small venue's, bars, parties, etc. From the reviews I believe that the 100T with the 410 cabinet would be more than sufficient from my needs but as a band we also are looking at doing smaller outdoor festivals and I am thinking that for a long terms investment the superbassman with possibly two 410 cabinets would be a better investment? For smaller gigs the one 410 should be more than sufficient, for larger gigs I can take both cabinets. I like a clean tone and am not really playing with an overdrive sound except for a couple of songs. So clean headroom would be important. I play a 4 string Musicman.

Definitely lots of headroom with the SB300. The vintage channel is clean and the other channel you can make clean as well. Very versatile. I would say go with the sb300 if you can shell out the $$$.
I'd agree. I started with the 100T and 410 Neo, then upgraded to the SB 300 and have never looked back.
Gotta agree with getting the SB300 if it's feasible. Too bad you don't have the 610 cab as an option. I use that combination in a medium room - 200 max capacity - and it rocks the room. If it were me, I'd get the 410 that's available now and order in the 2nd one ASAP if you have larger gigs on tap.
I got the Super Bassman just coz I like Lotsa headroom. Really the one 410 would probably do ya, but who am I to put a damper on your dreams.

Hey Rod, we must be related somehow. Play mine through the NV412 but have thought a lot about this exact rig. Can you compare the two?Got a couple Fender Bassman 115 neo cabs to go with the Super Bassman
if they made a 215 instead of 2-115's I would have one. selling my 215 pro was one of my dumbest ideas ever.
Mine sounds real sweet into the berg nv 215 but I often take the neo 610 for the glam factor, I just love turning round and looking at that matching rig. Plus the neo 610 is a great cab in its own right. I was stunned when I ab'd it side by side with the berg nv610 and preferred the fender.
I haven't compared side by side, but the Neo Bassman 115 is such a nice cab I just sold my 2 AE112'S
My plan is to use just the 2 115 neo cabs. Possibly sell my NV412. EEEK!!!
Hard to say re a comparison as the Super Bassman makes both sound so good.
I was thinking they may have less mids & grind than the 12s but todayi got a huge grinding mid range outta just one neo 115.

Hey Tim1. I'm just curious what it was about the fender can that you liked better?
It is a while since I did the side by side comparison, but from memory the Fender went deeper and (obviously with its tweeter) higher. The Fender tweeter crossover is very natural so the tweeter provided a very natural extension. What swung me most of all was that the Fender cab could be eq'd to absolutely nail the Berg NV610 tone, but the Berg did not have the versatility of the Fender. Both were comfortable being driven loud with the SB300 and an Ampeg SVT VR. Plus of course the Fender cab is considerably lighter and looks so good with the matching Fender head.
If you search you should be able to find the comparison I posted at the time. Certainly as a Bergantino fan I was surprised to come out favouring the Fender.
