The Fender Super Bassman 300 thread

Totally agree. As I've posted here b4, my 4001V63/SB300/NEO610 yields up the sweetest Ric tones since back in the day when I used a blue line SVT+810 cab. I actually like this combination of kit much better!
I only wish I had the time to scroll back through 80+ pages of this thread . I dare say there is a pic of my rig with the Ric at a gig somewhere in here ...I like seeing other variations of gear other players use.
Question for everyone. Is it safe to run the amp while the speaker output is on mute and no cab?

Actually, it IS okay to run the SB300 without a load, but only when the Speaker Output switch is set to Mute. I know that the wording in the manual is a bit confusing, but after bringing this topic up in my review, I have had numerous discussions with Fender (mostly through Dave Lewis), and they have assured me that this is the precise purpose of that switch, and that it is safe to run without a load when the Speaker Output is set to Mute. I'm guessing the warning in the manual which makes things kind of confusing was written in thoughts of when the amp is on and that switch is NOTset to Mute.

My SB300 is only two or three months old and it's been back to Fender Australia twice for warranty work!
It had a strange static sounding "tick" at times, which developed into a lengthy crackle (a week or so later) on start up.
Once it was warmed up it was fine, an absolute powerhouse, apart from the occasional "tick" when nothing was being played through it.
First time they changed the board that the power tubes were mounted to.
It came back to me and did the same thing as before, so back it went! (To their credit, their technician drove over an hour and a half to get to my home and pick it up this time.)
This time they contacted the factory in the US and were told that an amp they had worked on had a similar issue and it turned out to be a power tube being faulty.
Fender Australia have now apparently replaced the complete set of 6550 power tubes and been running the amp continuously for a couple of days.
It comes back to me this afternoon, so fingers crossed!
Their customer service has been brilliant, I can't fault it. Everyone I have dealt with has been super polite and very helpful. The way I see it, these guys weren't the ones who put the amp together so they can't be blamed for my woes.
Thankfully, I still have my Genz Benz head for backup. I'd be considerably less amicable about all of this if the Fender was my only amp!

That sux. That's good. That sux that yr having the problems. Mine's been fine since I got it. I know that's no help to you, sorry.
I used mine at an original band gig last night with the 115 neo Bassman cab. Unreal as usual.

It's hard to get cranky with these guys, they have been so good about it all.
I've just been a bit unlucky with the amp I bought, that's all.
I bought it off the shop floor, so who knows how well/badly it's been treated? eg if it's been warmed up properly before use.

I'm considering selling all my other cabs & grabbing another Bassman neo 115 to go with the one I've already got. Again. ..
They're just such cool cabs. 2 would go together for the big shows & a single 115 for the rest.
Parting with my NV412 is another thing altogether tho

If everything is resolved your patience will have paid off. Live this amp, can't.imagine getting rid of it.

Well, the amp has come home and so far it's perfect.
I've only played through it for a short while here in my living room, I'll use it properly in anger on Thurs at band rehearsal.
So far there have been no funny noises. It has its beautiful big sound, just as it should.

Gig last night. Super Bassman into Berg AE410
dam fine thump with the 4003 and finished up the night on my A-C EUT5. Both had rounds on . Bit of a change for me.
About 600 guests. Large place. Sound eng was an old friend. ...fun night.
that's the stage way down there, about halfway down the place.
