The Fender Super Bassman 300 thread

I'm pleased to report that the amp performed perfectly last night at rehearsal. No weird noises or clicks, just a massive, warm bass sound.
The power-amp tube swap done by Fender under warranty appears to have done the trick.
It's probably, no doubt, the placebo effect at work here, but I swear the amp sounded even warmer than it used to with these new power-amp tubes!
Anyway, I'm a very happy chappy!

Great news. Probably not placebo fx.
If yr power tubes were fritzed they must likely would've had a negative effect on the tone.
I've still not tried running the tubes hot or cold using the bias control on the rear of the amp. Tempted to try it tho. I had a little look at the bias lights last gig & ALMOST tackled it. ... Anyone that's tried this got any reports?

Super Bassman =》 Bassman Pro Neo 115 with Alleva-Copollo EUT5 & Ric 4003.
These settings. With the deep switch engaged on the vintage channel
Had the 4003 sounding GREAT. ...With the DEEP engaged. .. funk/soul band and didn't use the Drive channel that night. ....iirc.
My usual for that venue.

Nice rod, pretty much how I have the co rage channel set also. Gotta get me one of those 15s
First few songs I was struggling with my tone. .. using the A-C too! ! 
Usually this is pretty much plug n play... But. ..4th song I felt like switching to the Ric and whacked the deep switch on. ...bang!!!! Just suited the Ric perfectly. .In that room on that night perhaps, but it sounded great. I only used the A-C for one more song after that - Master Blaster.

Love the amp.
This is a notoriously hard room. With the bass having to set up in a corner and the big FOH PA bins very close to stage - so a LOT OF spill happens.
But the great EQ on the SB300 wins over. . And this particular night, just the vintage channel. With the DEEP & BRIGHT switches, there's quite a decent amount of eq available on this channel. I sure would've switched over to the modern channel with its sweepable mids if I had more problems

Yep, you can't go wrong with the SB300. I pulled mine out the other day as I have been going lighter with the Ampeg V4B and Orange 200. I had forgotten just how much sheer wellie the Sb300 has, as I have had to cut back on the gigging for a little while. I also have an early Trace Elliot V4 tube head. The SB300 wins out over them all for sheer control and booty.

I gotta gig this Sat night at one of the biggest function centres in my city. Called PW-1 (Princes Wharf One) for approx 1000 guests. And I'll be using the Super Bassman with the NV412 
I've not use this combo for a li'l while, due to a combination of things - having to go to gig straight from work, having to leave rig there after sound check and myself not trusting the security of the venue, or me just being plain lazy and thus using my (albeit great) Aguilar TH500 & Berg AE410. ., Still, a great rig that I'm completely happy using, but, hey, tubes is tubes & really, only tubes do what they do as tubes can do
!!!!!!
But this Sat we set up and sound check at 5pm abouts, then, they give us dinner and we do a "dinner music " set for an hour, then an hour break while they have awards n speeches etc. Then . . ..... we GO FOR IT! (The clients words)
So, Super Bassman- NV412 with Ric 4003 & maybe a 62 AVRI P, or '94 Stingray 5 -my version of bass heaven! I'll post pics asap after it.

I'm contemplating getting a new stand-alone cabinet. Anybody using this head along with a rumble series v3 210 or 115?
hey guys, so i used my amp briefly today, and i'm getting a very weak, distorted sounded out of both channels, which are set for clean. the autobias indicates nothing wrong with the power tubes. is this a pre amp tube problem or maybe something else? i used it yesterday for about 15 minutes and it was completely fine.

I always go for the simple stuff first, (though the distorted bit has me perplexed) ....
My initial thought is to try different guitar and speaker cables and also cabinet to eliminate them from the equation.
I reckon I'd then clean the jack sockets on everything, bass, amp and cab and try that.
There's a separate pre-amp tube for each channel, so I doubt that both tubes would stuff up at the same time.

I'd still go through all the sockets, leads, connections etc. and clean/check them all.
Could have been a dirty connection or something somewhere.

I'd take the front grille off and while amp is on and turned up a little, tap each pre amp tube with a wooden pencil or similar. Listen for any difference. If they're all quiet, then that's a possibility that they're all fine. Not definite...But it CAN indicate a faulty tube
