the "For Sale" forum..

argh I can't belive it's supporting members only!

I don't mean to cause an uproar, but I feel that I have supported and do support this forum 'enough' just by my activity and recommendations to others over the last 3 years. I cannot belive that the optional supporting membership scheme is gradually being enforced upon us - regardless of how you look at it.

Apologies that I sound like a scrooge - I'm a student and $20 (£13?) is too much for me to pay out to a forum.

This is the only forum I use so I definatly won't be fleeing, just wanted to voice my dismay.

oh yeah, anyone wanna buy a red 4 string bass? Or can I tempt anyone with a black 5 string fretless? ;)

I'm glad that you participate heavily on this site, but please realize that every day you're on this site you're costing us $. The money I pay for bandwidth every month exceeds my mortgage payment :) Every byte sent out to your computer costs $. And the Supporting Members and sponsors of this forum make it all possible.

You're free to question site practices here in the "Shack". But I don't want moderators to have to deal with users questioning their authority in their public forums. You're free to PM or email any mod with any and all of your complaints. If you don't get a satisfactory response, PM or email me. I respond to every complaint and take them all seriously. I've been doing this for 7 years now, and one thing I've learned is that if a moderator has to defend his actions in a public forum, all sense of authority is lost and the discussion quickly devolves into something very ugly. Alternatively, private complaints almost always result in a resolution satisfying both parties.

And in light of Pauls comments above, I got a supporting membership.

I'll stomach the mods. I don't really have a choice. Well, I do, but the alternative is not use the site. There is more good info and networking here that immature, egotistical mods won't get me too down....

???
who would that be?
i've seen some ornery mods, and some occasionally cocky ones (hehheh, hehheh...he said 'cocky'), but no immature, egotistical ones.
mebbe it's their lack of being in a greek fraternal organization that puts you off.
:D

I'm not going to let this thread turn to mod-bashing. Since none of you have ever contacted me with a single complaint about a moderator, I'll assume that you're just blowing off steam. Complaints are taken seriously when addressed to me privately - public bashing accomplishes nothing.

No mod bashing intended. It has all been in jest, I assure you. I'll gladly remove my post if it came across that way. Maybe I should use the smiles more.

So, I offer my apoligies.

Thanks

What does this have to do with anything? So you're a member of the first black fraternity. How is this important to TalkBass and moderators?

-Mike

It was all in jest and fun. And yes, I'm a member of the first African American Fraternity. Are you? It's not important. Were you listed on the credits of the Headhunter album?

Ease up.... Geez.

If it'll make anyone or everyone feel better, I'll change my av and the accompanying text....

Touchy folks around here.

No, I am not in your fraternity. No, I made no records with the Headhunters.

I'm not being touchy. I was honestly wondering how your fraternity had something to do with your status at TB. It's in your avatar, and you made a mention of it here in the thread.

I quit. You win.

I'm going to cancel the notifications to this thread. This is getting old. You folks have at it.

Sore loser. :D

Actually, I didn't know anyone was trying to win something. I asked a couple questions. Maybe you could lighten up yourself?
