The Fretless Club (Part IV)

My Bass mods K4VV Landed today. Haven't really had time to take it for a real test drive yet but I thought I'd jot down a few thoughts from the few minutes I took at lunch to make sure everything worked okay.

  1. It's HEAVY!! The website says swamp ash body but it feels more like northern ash. Gonna open up the control cavity later and see if there is a deposit of lead in there somewhere.
  2. Despite the weight, it's comfortable to play and well balanced.
  3. I like the proprietary preamp. Nice tones with the Bart pups. The controls are main volume (with pull active defeat), pup blend, stacked mid / passive tone and stacked treble bass.
  4. Fit, finish and hardware are all top notch.

My contribution to the club for consideration.

Roscoe 3005 and an Alembic Persuader

The Roscoe I played it last night and the sound is unbelievable. Took a solo on it and I was in heaven.

A late seventies production Persuader. I bought this back in "92" and if you found out what I paid for it
you would crap a horse. It still sounds fantastic.

That would be mid eighties, the serial number will tell you the year its made. Since it's fretless the number probably won't be on the fretboard, maybe its in the controls cavity?
My wild guess would be '86.

They started with the Alembic script under the logo in '87 (and stopped putting it on as a standard feature in 2003 due to "style change")
According to the Alembic site, the Persuader was introduced in '83, but I've never seen one older than '84 (they're also not in the '83 catalogue)

Looks extremely nice! :bassist:

Ahh you are correct, a quick check with Alembic it is a "86" production. The serial number is on the fretboard and does not appear in the control cavity.
