Age has little to do with it.

Interest enough to know your music history has.
If a 'kid" really cared, he would listen, regardless of when something came out. And, to get to hear it, he would actually read music history.

If you don't know where something came from, you don't have any right to act like you can have an opinion on it.
The year you were born is not sacred, nor was it the beginning of time or music.

Sadly, I think that is where the difference really is:
A lot of older guys make an effort to stay current and understand, while way too many younger people just hide behind the convenient "it was before our time."

Ultimately, if you really love music, nothing is before your time.

As a band, since we have new members, we wanted to share something’s about our musical tastes to better understand where we all come from musically. Remember were a Pop Rock Band

I sent my our guitarist a video clip of the Beatles performing live ,it might have been them doing “Help” at Shea Stadium, and he (37) Sent me a clip of a Metal band.

He sent back a response saying he was not much of a Beatles fan, I responded by saying I am not a fan of Metal. I just don’t get it.

Now the Beatles had retired way before our guitarist was born so I can see why he is not a fan. And me at 58, a lot of folks my age just don’t value or consider all the fast playing (I think you guys call it shredding) all the scales and stuff as musically appealing.

What’s my point, I don’t know?

I was 15 when "I Want to Hold Your Hand" was released in the U.S. So I listened to the Beatles through high school and then in the Marines, when they released the Abbey Road and Let it Be albums. They had broken up by the time I got out of the Marines and, since I had heard pretty much everything they did (at least the commercial stuff) countless times, I was fine with it. These days, I play some of their songs in my bands, but they're nothing special to me now.

The guys in Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, UFO, Kiss, Zeppelin, and other bands considered the forefathers of Metal are in their 60s. The guys who were in the heyday of Metal in the 80s are in their 50s. To think that Metal is something limited to young folks is ludicrous. I know lots of 40 and 50 somethings who like Metal, and plenty of 20 somethings who don't.

I'm mostly a metalhead/heavy rocker myself, but I've always been open to other genres as well, ranging from Sophia to Justin Timberlake...

Never thought too much of the Beatles... until I heard 'I Want You (She's so Heavy)' on the radio. If that ain't a stoner riff! Turns out 'Abbey Road' and 'The White Album' are great albums!

All my hate nowadays goes to Kesha...

I can't say I dislike Metal, I try and try but I just don't get it

Some genres of music you have to start at the beginning. Can't just jump into metal mid-stream and understand what it's all about. Jazz is probably the same way. The roots of metal basically all point back to one band - Black Sabbath. Listen to the first 2 albums. Big turning point in hard rock when guitarist went from just strumming chords to playing heavy riffs. Awesome rhythm section and lyrical imagery. Modern metal is mostly just Sabbath amped on steroids. Don't care for too much modern metal myself these days but the originals will always be my heros.

I use the Beatles as a reference for a lot of what I do, song ideas, band management, shows, live performances even social issues, I often think, what would John think about this

That makes sense, knowing and understanding a genres history always helps.

Good for you, there is so much to the Beatles, stuff I don't even know. Thing is the young guys should try and understand how much on a head of the curve these guys were.

They were doing what bands are trying to do now in the late 50s. Nobody had seen young guys singing with electric guitars and drums until they came along.

You listened to it, if you grew up with it, you would be playing it.

You grew up and came of age with metal and thats why you play metal.

No I think what I said was I grew up on those bands. They made me want something similar within my generation, and metal is our generations rock from the 60's. At least that's my opinion of it. Some was a little more "metal-ish" than other but all metal roots itself with those bands.

The Beatles were influenced by Chuck & Buddy.However, it doesn't change the fact that no other band or Artist changed the face of music like The Beatles did. Not even Elvis.Nobody had ever put a package togther like The Beatles

Name one of these bands that were playing with drums, Electric Guitars and Basses 10 years before 1964 that had the impact The Beatles had.

You usually do your homework, but you have failed tonight. If you look at those early Elvis movies from the 50s you never even saw an electric guitar. Elvis played acoustic and the bands always used an Upright Bass.

What other band achieved that kind ofWorld Wide Fame, had the material and production,and the Management the exposure The Beatles had?
