Same here. My guess if he does it'll be well thought out and probably somewhat like a clean/HiFi version of the SLO w/o the tube. Ya know...USB and sims etc.

I had an Arkham bullet for a while, sweet unit, but lack of a master pot forced me to move it on. The Oracle looks like a nice upgrade! Hmmm, classifieds..

I ended up preordering the Sol Invictus too, pretty psyched about it!
Give it a whirl! I have the same pedals in my series loop. The Sonic Spark is nice sometimes but the dual band compressor is always on for me.

). It's still on EBS' website, so it doesn't look like it's been discontinued though. Any knowledge bombs from the experts here?5sg.

My time with it so far is very brief, but I like it. Only used it through my pedalboard and Rolls PM50 > headphones so far. I bought the older version only because it was cheap used. I thought it might be a "poor man's Noble, SLO or Oracle," but I'm pretty far off in that wishful description. By itself, the original version does not seem to have quite enough "oomph" and output to really justify using it as a stand alone preamp (without an amp or other preamp). I thought it might replace my Broughton SVPre, but it will not. Granted, some more time with it, maybe a different tube, might yield different/better results and lead me to a different conclusion.Well, crap in a bucket. Another one added to the G.A.S. list.

What I can say that it does VERY well thus far in my limited experience is generate tubey overdrive. Without the SVPre, it sounds weak and thin. But run INTO the SVPre, and it is pure magic. Warms it up nicely and adds a fantastic tubey grind. I actually find myself preferring the "Modern" setting more so far. It will definitely replace some other tube sim pedals I've been using in an effort to achieve this very tone without an actual tube. Turns out there's just no substitute for a real tube. It's a big honkin' thing, and requires AC power (the old version, at least), but it's totally worth it to me. (So far). I'm sure results with an actual amp would be different. But I'd think of it more as a fantastic overdrive pedal than an actual preamp/amp sim. I think the newer DI version has higher output and a few other bells and whistles.

Update: Messed with it a few minutes more this afternoon (literally, like three minutes, after reading something online about it I wanted to try). You can crank the volume of the VD, and have the gain set low, and it is PLENTY hot. But I'm not a huge fan of that sound. At least not as much as with the SVPre also in the chain. But maybe with a cab sim, the EBS VD on it's own could suffice as a great stand-alone preamp for that Fender tube amp vibe.

I'm mostly curious as to why the major retailers don't have it, since it's been out for a while and doesn't seem discontinued. Other preamps are higher on the list to check out, but even the more boutiquey ones seem more available. Just thinking out loud I guess.
