The Great Bass Preamp/DI Comparison

I know this was asked about before on a different post but no one really chimed in there yet has anyone got to test out the Gr bass dual preamp? It looks to be a pretty awesome option if you want to blend in overdrive and distortion but still have a tight clean low end.
I had a Dual 800 for a bit. The "od/distortion" was my least liked part about that amp (and there was a few things that bugged me). It's best left clean and get your od elsewhere.

Compressors with DI:
Retrospec Squeezebox
Big Cali 76 tx but need TRS to xlr cable
Fishman platinum pro
All of them are large, I would use one of the great smaller comps like Diamond or Becos and a Radial stagebug

The LA-1A has a "DI" output as well. Just need a TRS to male XLR cable/adapter. I used one this way for a while as my compressor and DI. Worked great but for some reason you can't use the Boost function.

Tube Works is good stuff. I had a 4001 Tube DI a long time ago and it was killer.
BK Butler Tube Works RT-4001 Active DI Direct Input Box | Curtis's Gear Emporium | Reverb

it's too big for my board, but for $100 it's tempting.

mor this on looks like it almost new..$still not bad at $300

Tube Works RT-4001 Real Tube Direct DI - vintage 1995 rare | Parsonsfield Surplus Shack | Reverb
Yep - those RT-4001s are great!

Ok guys, I didn't think a DI could make THAT much of a difference, but let me tell you, I was blown away by the Khan and the impact that it immediately had on my tone and ability to cut in a mix. I even loaned it to a friend, and he was equally blown away. If you are like me and doubt if it's worth it please try it out! In fact, I was so overwhelmed I ended up also purchasing an Oracle, which is definitely overkill, but I'm going to be running the Oracle for some tone shaping into the Khan, and I'm expecting to be very pleased. I'm very thankful for this thread and for all of ScubaDuba's hard work and money spent! Much appreciated!

Yep, a good tube DI (I use a REDDI but any of them really) does make a difference. And yes, a thread with all these examples is very helpful...and G.A.S. inducing, and sometimes G.A.S. eliminating.

For sure. Tube DI's make a real difference and the Khan is no slouch. The Oracle is a killer preamp. I've got one of these on the way and it appears to check a lot of boxes too.

I'll put some thoughts in my Tube Preamp/DI thread.

The Khan is a great value IMO. I see this is in the same "middle-range price" category. I am looking forward to seeing how this turns out.

I'm curious as to the Input Pad and how much it can cut. One of the things that I like about the Shaw Tube Injection is the Input Pad knob that I can twist to get the input gain where I want it. This really helps with getting good clean tones.

Ok, I just watched their demo video and doesn't sound like the Input Pad really cuts very much gain.
