Must be a trend. Bruce has almost shamed me into copying that Kay guitar as a bass.
I’m pondering ways to do the arched top and back without painstaking carving or a Hofner style plywood press.
Mummification proceeds Lemmification. Maybe you can see the checker binding peeking through. When this hardens up I'll put on the outer layer of .060" parchment color binding.

It actually just popped into my head, layering on the 200th piece of tape. then I mis-spelled “precede”. My brain is a random word gumball machine.

He was a collector of German symbols of a certain era, and oak leaves were symbolic.
Oak leaves can and do symbolize other things to other people, many are military related, but it’s my take that the symbolism *to Lemmy* was derived from there.

Thanks to Wikipedia, we can see that the following states have some variety of oak as their official state tree:
Connecticut (white oak)
DC (scarlet oak)
Georgia (southern live oak)
Illinois (white oak)
Iowa (any oak you like)
Maryland (white oak)
New Jersey (northern red oak)
The US's National Tree is also an unspecified variety of oak. Whatever oak you have, hey, that's your national tree!
I think what we can conclude is that a lot of people like oak, and it's become a symbol for so many things that you can pretty much claim it symbolizes whatever you have in mind at the moment.
I believe I read somewhere that the #1 was built for him as a gift, not something he requested, could be wrong though since I can't remember the source.
Slim pickings as the holiday encroaches, but I did get the control cavity done. The threaded barrel for the freeway switch is only around 5/16" long, so I had to sneak up on the depth of cavity without cutting through my carved top which would be... unfortunate. I ended up with 3/16" of wood thickness for the cavity "roof", reinforced with a.060" aluminum sheet stock liner wrapped in copper foil to make it easier to solder to. The aluminum "roof" is epoxied in.
I left the cover a couple .001" proud of the body, as you can see, I picked up some tool marks and dings on the back. I'll try steaming it a little, or just sand them out while I'm getting the cover perfectly flush.

Finally got a chance to work on this, 1 week trip to Paris with my wife... and then a week of Covid I caught on the plane home. I'm fully vaxed, so it was basically a 48 hour suckfest, but...shoulda worn a mask on the plane.

Glad you’re home safe and feeling better. Hope it was a good time, Paris I mean, not being sick.
Word to the wise: Avoid Icelandair if humanly possible. A fiasco of changed gates, missed connections, etc. And then, on combined 8 hours of flight time, they provide only water. You want a pack of peanuts? Pay me. Dried up microwave sandwich? Pay me. 9 euro please. Crappy little headphones? 5 euros. You want a pillow with somebody else's hair on it? See if somebody left one in the overhead. Flight attendants too busy yukking it up in the galley. Paris was predictably fabulous, I feel like I'm in Fun Withdrawl now, back to cold, rainy New England. More Shop Time, I guess.
