The Ibanez Club (Part 3)

ok, this summer i saw a teenager band around here in our park and talk about needing clipped::eek:

the guitar players BOTH had Ibanez guitars with unclipped strings, the bassist followed suit, the keyboardist was a guy with the longest unclipped fingernails I ever saw, and to top it all off, the drummer was wearing open toe sandals and had some really gross long toenails that didn't look like they were clipped for years.

Any of you guys have an opinion on this???,basically ive had the SR800le about 6 months,dont know what strings were on it when i got it and recently put Rotosound Swing Bass (45-105)
and they feel crap:mad:
Im still kinda new to playing and wondered if anyone could recommend the best choice i could try,cheers.

personally, i prefer the 45-105 DR black beauties on my sr300dx.

I think your concern is more related to string choice. So, I suggest browsing/searching the forums for a relative topic. :D

Hog body? :confused: The SR800 has a basswood body. I have 2 SR800's, and each weigh 7.4 pounds.

I kinda drifted away from this thread. I'm glad I caught this. Hmmmm. I'm misunderinformed or something. I think I probably took my information off the item description of an Ebay offering. Thanks for setting me back on the tracks. That's less than a pound heavier than the average Mikro.
Anyway, I bought the Mikro for now. I'll continue to keep a sharp eye out for an SR800 though. I still think that's where I'm going to be most comfortable. By the time I'm done with the Mikro I'll have nice SR800 money in it. Of course by the time I get done with an SR800 I'll have some other kind of money in it. I gotta sell some gear.

By the way. What do all the suffixes mean? Is there a chart somewhere that describes the various variations in SR800?

Just a short shot here - MOST (to my knowledge anyway) Ibanez SR-series have Elixir Nanos on them. I too tried 66s on it and they feel like hacksaw blades, teeth up - YUCK, and went right back to Nanos.

That will help. I've noticed some Japan built Ibanez have paper stickers with the "made in Japan" message while I think all of the SR800s have been decals. Apparently, like nearly all instrument manufacturers, getting definitive information from serial numbers is difficult to say the least. I saw one on Fleabay with a number that defied this: http://www.ibanezcollectors.com/discus/messages/5751/8404.html
It was an SR800 with a serial F105xxx. Figure that one out.

The 1987 SR800's had a silver decal on the back of the headstock with the serial # and 'Made In Japan' on it. F105xxx sounds like a 1991 model, and I don't see it defying the serial number chart at all.

Erm....exactly what im doing...relevant section,ie-Ibanez forum seems a good place to start when looking to find advice on ironically an Ibanez bass:eyebrow:....unless you want me to ask Fender,Rickenbacker or maybe Yamaha users to advise best strings on a bass they`ve never owned lol ??
