Again - that's just my take on it and part of the aura of the P/J sound situation on the Jag with individual V/T stacks for each p'up.

I had that V/V/T on a LP Special and is one reason why I think it had so little to offer in variety. It was a great sustain and ultimately fantastic tone machine with wide ability - but it happened on both p'ups at the same time and I didn't think to divide them from each other and got rid of that bass fast.

Right, what I'm saying is, if you only have a master tone control, then you might as well have a blend pot (if you like having just one volume control, like me).

However, if you have seperate tone control for each pickup, it makes sense to have a seperate volume control for each pickup instead of a blend pot.

You didn't mention that before. Given that Ibanez kept downgrading their passive Soundgears and then stopped making them altogether, I'd say the vast majority of bassists didn't like them.

Greetings all:
I played a SR200 and was very impressed with the weight and neck. It's agathis? Anyway, very light and nice but pretty unbalanced tonally and volume wise across the strings. I'd like to look at a used SR800 but it has a hog body and should be a good deal heavier methinks. Active pups too. Seem well received here.

Could y'all who have an 800 give me some weights for comparison to other bass's? There's an Alembic on Fleabay that's way out of my price range but I could sell a couple of guitars and buy it. Probably never loose a dime. It's 9.5 pounds all up with strap and locks.

I'm a guitarist primarily but I'm old and wore out and need to stay light in the bass department. I've played Fenders and Musicmen at GC and they are really too heavy and thick necked for my taste. Even the Jazz. I really find Ibanez SR series bass's (so far)to fit me best.

I'd like to thank everybody for being here. Y'all are a pretty good lot so far. Beats heck out of HC's forums eh?

Just a f'rinstance: my SR500 weighs 8 lbs, 2 oz and that's exactly 2 ounces more than my VM-Jaguar - which I found to be a shock.

All my other basses (Fenders/Squiers) weigh at least 9lbs and one is 9 lbs 11 oz.

These were weighed at home on a Food Portion scale and later confirmed at a US Postal Scale in town.

And, yeah - I'm old too and serious bone conditions that make it very painful - so I need to keep the weight down too.

Sitting is the best position to play though for me. Although with Vicadin, I can stand for hours - or until the drug wears off.

Thanks. Ultram (Tramadol) is my drug of choice. With Tylenol or it gives me a headache. Vicodin makes me stupid (er). Sitting is mandatory from time to time.

Well, I guess short (really, medium) scale basses just aren't for me. After I finished fixing up my '82 Roadster RS271TR from the previous page (thanks again for the info, Dano!), I spent a few days with it, and decided not to force the issue. A really nice lady posted a "I need a small bass" ad on the Phoenix CL, and after I answered her, she jumped on it. I prolly could have got more than $125 for it on eBay or whatever, but her excitement and appreciation more than makes up the difference. I know she'll play it!

Just for the sake of the "knowledge bass", here's what I found out about it...and some "after" photos.

It features an ash body and a 3-piece maple neck. It weighs only about 7 lbs., soaking wet. I used my spare parts drawer to replace the bridge; volume and tone controls; and knobs. The black spray paint on the p'up covers was removed to match the back cavity cover.
