The 605 is made of Ash and the 505 is made of mahogany. I personally prefer the tone of the 505 (and certainly the price).
I've never been a believer in body woods making a big difference in the tone of an instrument. If I played a 505 and a 605 side by side blind folded, I couldn't tell you which was which. But I can tell a difference and I do have a preference.
I would recommend either one though. They both play like butter.
