Anyone played an SR-800? :help:

I had an SR400 for a while and while it was pretty flexible, (and had an amazing neck) the EQ always sounded "fake" to me, like it was obvious the tone was digitally altered by the EQ and was really unnatural sounding. Does anyone know if the SR800 suffers this issue? That was why I sold my SR400, because I didn't like the "fake" digital sounding preamp.

I have a Roadstar II, model # RB885 if I am not mistaken, that is the Ibanez early take on the 5 string bass. Mine is from '85. Ebony board, active PUs, just a really nice bass. It was my only bass for ~ 12 years or so. Modded with a Kahler bridge that required a move of the bridge PU. No longer stock, but smokin'. Played it so much, but I had played fretless for ~ 6 years previous (again, with an Ibanez [Musician model # 940]), so really wanted a fretless model...

But wait, I also have another one! So enamored with my main, I searched for another one to make fretless.Took about a year. Another '85, made a couple months from the first one I have. Except for the fretless thing, it's totally stock. Really like this bass, but it is really no comparison to the fretted 5.
They look great together on my wall of fame.

Not sure how many of these 5 string RS II basses were made , but I am pleased to have the 2 of them.

I would like a number as well... forgive me for such an un-detailed photo, but this is all i got. I am a very happy owner of SR505, which plays and sounds better than anything USA/Japan made i played so far.

The Wimbish models seem to only pop up occasionally at a premium price. I've never played one. I'd love to try one when I find the right deal.

There's a beautiful DWB-3 on ebay.

There is one on CL that has been popping up often. I'd love to take it for a test. 550 doesn't seem too bad a price, if only I had the cabbage!

Am I the only one that doesn't get the heavy price tag on these? It has EMGs which are usually on the less expensive models, ordinary electronics, a body made of a non exotic wood, a single color paint job (although I do like the translucent finish) and a heavy bridge that doesn't allow for easy string removal like the Ibbys nowadays.
I assume the price is due to where it was made and oval inlays. I'm sure it's a fine playing bass, but to me this model lacks imagination and looks like so many of their less expensive basses. Just my opinion.

You can see by my signature that I'm a huge Ibby fan, and there are plenty of them that I dream about, but this just isn't one.

That's actually the exact one I've been looking at that inspired all this inquiry. :p

I'm not so sure now though if there's nothing particularly special about it other than the body contours, I've also got my eye out for a 90's 1300 series SR.

I've thought about trying one of those, but I think I'd prefer a D and A for the fretless strings than the G and D, plus they cost a fortune haha :D

Yeah thats part of the learning curve. I'm trying to find a tuning that I like. Having unison strings is a bit wasteful I think. I bought it because it's an odd piece and could be very expressive. I just got to work on being one of the cool guys that could actually really put this thing to use. ;)

Oh and it was just under a grand from my local mom and pop shop, so it was expensive but not stupid expensive.
