I just scooped a 1995 EXB (Korean)400 for super cheap as a secondary/messing around bass for when I don't want to carry around my precious Cirrus. It needs a little maintenance so I can't really form an opinion yet. I'm not in love with it but it still feels okay considering it needs a setup. I'll most likely fix it up and then flip it, but it did get me back into Ibanez. I'm hoping to make a bit of a profit and then maybe find an SB again...I miss mine.
Maybe it's just a phase but honestly, there are days where carrying the Cirrus hurts my shoulder and it always makes me kinda nervous to take it on the subway. So this led to my impulse purchase, something cheap and light for when I don't feel like dressing up, so to speak.

Which, at the least, I'm excited/curious about as a project even if I don't keep it. It just feels weird to not know yet....ya know?

I wonder.... do the makers ask the artists if they can make a sig version, or do the artists go to the makers saying "if you make me a nice sig model I'll promise to use it for at least 2 tracks on my next tour".

After all, it's a nice way to pick up a free 5K instrument AND get royalties. (Which is also why the spec's not to high on some sig models - you pay royalties to the artist)

...or does Cimar not officially count as Ibanez?

I also have a mid-80s Roadstar II that was my very first bass, but have no pictures as it needs to be re-assembled once I find the neck. It's been in pieces for 20 years, but the neck is in amongst my storage somewhere and since I am moving soon, expect I'll find it and be able to put it back together.

The big difference is the consistency of quality in the higher priced models imho. But if you can try out your bass in advance, you can find some very nice models in the lower numbers. I've never played a bass that plays better than my 755, but I doubt that all of them are that nice. The neck is as straight as an arrow, action incredibly low - just a very nice bass. To me, there is no bass that is 1K better than that because it fills my needs. Others may feel differently, especially those that have more income and wouldn't feel the strain 1K puts on a bank account.

The 500 series will have Bart MK1s which is a big step up from pickups in the lower models, so you have that going for you. You can replace those if you want later with MK4s which is a step up - maybe not a huge step, but a step. With the 1206 you get Nordstrands which some people like as much as the Barts, although I'm not one of them.

I have had a 1990 SR1000 since it was a year old and recently purchased a SR1400e. They play very similar but have very different tone. I have recently revamped the finish on the SR1000.

I have several other Ibanez guitars but this is a Bass Forum:eyebrow:

So, been wanting a six string for a while now, just never got one. On occasion I'd look around ebay or craigslist and see some, but never did anything. Today, I found one I'm really interested in. I've tried to locate one to play, but I haven't been able to test one in person. What do you guys think? I already have and love two Ibanez basses, one a SR300DX and the other a SR505. This is a SR406, which should be right between both of them. Tonally, I prefer the Bartolini pickups in my 505, and if I'm going for a six string I feel that the "better" pickups would serve me well. I know that the 406 has Ibanez pickups, which I do like on my 4 string, just not sure if it would sound good with a 6 string. Any input or experience with this bass or similar basses in the same series?

I have Ibanez pups on my EDB600. I went to the store the other day and tried the SR600 and really loved the tone of the Bartolinis. I'm now thinking of trading for the SR600.
I would assume the tone on 6 strings would be the same as 4, so I'd wait out and get the 6 string with better pups. But that's only IMHO
