tbh i really dont know... ??

All i can say is that my G&L came with D'Addario round wounds and these (on the SR1200) feel smoother...?

the 1400 was nice, and essentially the same other than the top..tho i guess according to the reviews there is a subtle tonal difference, but i gravitated to the more sober look. At first i didnt like the gold hardware but now am digging it a bit..

Elixirs are coated strings. If you don't know right away, you will know when they start to wear and they look fuzzy.

I personally love them. They sound good, have softer treble frequencies, and last forever. The only downside is that they don't ground you because you're not touching metal. I have one bass with exposed pole pieces and in certain poorly grounded rooms you hear crackling when your finger touches the pole piece and it grounds on that instead of already being grounded via the strings.

Just got my SR5000E tonight. My main bass has been an SR1400 for pretty much since I started playing. I've been through a couple other basses, Peavey USA Millenium and a Dingwall ABZ among others and nothing has compared to the SR1400 tones and playability. I figured I'd just go ahead and step up since I love the wenge look of the 5000E, and I always want two basses on hand. Knowing the 5000 would be virtually identical to the 1400 which fits me like a glove with the added bonus of some different tones on tap I pulled the trigger.

Pros: It came with a case and it looks better to my eyes.
Cons: It cost 1000.00 more. Its heavier than the 1400

Right now I need to set up the new bass with my (un)usual 115 string set so direct comparison as to how they stack up tone wise is not quite even. The stock strings on the new bass are not good for the way I play, too light, so they sound pretty thin compared to the 1400 right now. Playability is the same between the two, construction is also the same. The only difference between the two basses are pickups, electronic setup and top woods.

The final verdict imo is that the SR12/1400 basses are the absolute best basses in their price range and the prestige line of basses are objectively not worth the money in comparison. I'll keep the 5000 since I'm a sucker for the looks and it will give me that ever so slight change of pace sonically but in reality it's not really worth the price. I love the bass but the fact that the Premium line is out there, being as good as they are, should warrant Ibanez making an effort to really make the prestige stuff stand out from the other basses they offer.

Did you buy your 1200 new? If so, you should have gotten Ibanez's Premium multi tool with it. I know it's metric, and I believe it's either 2.5mm or 3mm.

When I picked up my 1206e a few weeks ago (brand new, I might add), the relief in the neck was like a freakin' skate board ramp, it was brutal. How it came from the factory like that, I will never know. It was unplayable past the 7th fret for me.

A few quick turns of the truss rod (thank jebus it's a single rod), and it was right as rain. Plays beautifully, and sounds like nothing I've ever played before.

SR_Addict, that's a beauty you've got. I've been looking at that one for a few weeks now. I'm waiting for GC or Sam Ash to get one in stock so I can check it out personally. But I'm a huge fan. I am curious how well the mono bridge works or if there is any difference. Congrats!

Hey Tim.

My last bass was an Ibanez SR505. The huge difference to me is that the low B is just so much tighter and not nearly as floppy. Even in the rare instances where I have it tuned to A, it still seemed tighter than when my 505 was in standard tuning!

The monorail is way easier to work on for me, too. Every string can be fine tuned without any sort of tension interference from the next one. And to be honest, I think it looks a lot cooler, too. :D

You won't regret picking up one of these 1200 series basses. It was a bit of a splash for me ($1,249.99), but so worth it!!

And whoever it was that said the EQ is EXTREMELY sensitive on these basses is 100% correct. The smallest iterations can drastically change your tone.

It's nice to have that sort of control at your fingers. I've had it for 2 weeks now. I think I've put down for a total of 10 minutes, haha.

Some may think I'm crazy, but earlier this evening I switched out the Bart MK1 pickups for Ibanez' CAP pickups. I'm much happier with the CAP's. I found the MK1's to be a little too "wide" sounding with my GK rig - a bit too much high end that I was having trouble taming. The CAP pickups bring a little more tightness & focus but still have some top end brightness, just not as extended in the top end as the MK1's. The bass & midrange voicing are very similar to the Barts. They are a much better fit for my tone needs, and I'm really happy with the end results. :hyper:
