oh nice. someone on there asked how to tell which ones were made in japan. i've got a database going with that info, so i can usually find out pretty quickly.
I don't know whether many of TBers have noticed or not...
the neck-thru SR series don't exactly have the well-known SR series slim neck profile. Instead, they have quite thicker profile which even thicker than BTB series typical 20 mm @ 1st fret / 22 mm @ 12th fret neck-thru profile. Some of the neck-thru SR series have profile of 20.5 mm @ 1st fret / 22.5 mm @ 12th fret, some even go up to 21.5 mm @ 1st fret / 23.5 mm @ 12th fret.
yes noticed and noted. these are from ibanez catalogs which are prone to typos.
in 1997:
SR4DX neck: width 38mm at nut, 62mm at 24th fret; thickness 19mm at 1st fret, 21mm at 12th fret, 305mm radius

Looking at the specs of the current catalog of Premiums & none of them are neck-thru. I'm guessing it wasn't a popular option.
Trust me, I really like the Premiums. If this 800 series works for me, I will be looking at one...possibly a semi hollow or a 5er.
My take on it is that someone at Ibanez knows a thin neck is more prone to going wonky.

i think 2016 SR1400TE was the last neck through SR. The neck needs to thicken as it approaches the body because it is neck through. To remain thin like a bolt on as it approaches the heel would be too abrupt a change.
still doesn't answer why they could have it thinner on BTB neck-thru...
You are forgetting the Portamento SRF700/705/706. These are neck-thru and still in the market today.
I think BTB bodies are generally thicker than SR bodies. Still, they are able to make thinner neck profile on the BTB neck-thru despite thicker body. Also I don't feel the neck abruptly changes when it approaches the heel on any of my BTB neck-thru.
Is the 12th fret farther from the body (distance, not frets) on a btb due to style and scale difference?
I did forget portamentos. They are too different a category from the standard fretted SR models (SR1400TE, SRT, SR900, SR1000E etc) to be in my consideration.
The neck on my 07' SR400 is 20.5mm @ 1st, I think it's the same neck as used on the SRX line.

Wow, they sure measured the same when I checked here at home last month, but I didn't use calipers, so I was eyeballing it.
