The new BTB's have Bartolini's in them. Mine has the Ibby pups that are very good. I got a deal on my BTB because it was last years model. I caught mine for $399.00 I didn't get the SR 500 I got the SR 400 instead because I wanted something with a P/J configuration. Both the SR 400 and 500's are good basses I played both. The SR 400 in the vintage blue is gorgeous. The quality of all three of these basses has stepped up about two notches from what they were when they first came out. I think you would be happy with either one of them.

It's a rare thing when one gets to re-acquire a lost love from days gone by. It's even rarer when the object of desire is scarce to begin with. Well today I did it. The Musician came in and I'm more than stoked over it's arrival. Got it from a guy in Seattle who had too many instruments. It's precisely the version I owned back then.

This thing sounds even better than I remembered!:hyper: :bassist:

That's my Kawai F2B. I had it up for sale so that I could purchase an Ibby like this one but I had a windfall deal come through and I was able to keep it. Whew, I really didn't want to see it go. So now, I believe I own 2 of the finest examples of Japanese craftsmanship available.

here's a shot of my 1986 ibanez musician. The last variation of the musician line up. Pity they discontinued the musician line up. Does anybody know the reason why? were they underappreciated or unpopular back in the day?

That looks a LOT like the modern SR's. Maybe the SR line just replaced the Musician?

You are right. I thought so too the first time I saw this musician bass. If im not wrong, back in the day they had a whole range of basses, including the destroyer and various other explorer shaped basses, as well as the roadster/roadstar models. So , perhaps the high end SR series replaced the musician line of basses. Mind you back then ibanez found its niche in the rock guitar/bass market so soundgears were the 'in' thing then.

Thank you flywheel, The roadstar is killer and play's like a deam, All three of these Ibanez's are worthy of the "One" status. The Blazer and Star are very similar in shape and size and the only difference is the maple board on the Blazer is a little thinner front to back and it makes it a very fast playing bass. The Musician just plain Rules!!

omg, Funkster, i want your musician so bad. Thats by far one of the sexiest basses ive ever seen. And the old musician headstocks are to die for. Although some of bodies look odd, but your white one... daaamn :p

anyway, i cant be bothered posting pics of my ibby. But its a metallic candy apple red burst EDA900. sexy :bassist:

I have an -87 Roadstar RB800, which i bought used in -91. Its the only bass i can´t sell. It´s just amazing how everything on it just always works.
Luckily mine doesn´t have the logo on the body!

I think the SR line was just an evolution of several things Ibanez had been working on. I'm not sure what year the Soundgears were first introduced but you can see signs of the body shape evolving in the Roadstars too. I think the Musician was around until the mid 80's or so but the Roadstars continued to be produced into the late 80's.

I wish Ibanez hadn't decided to quit using the headstock they used on the 83 and 84 Roadstar II's. I'm assuming they must have had possible legal issues with Gibson or something to just quit the design soon after.
