The "I'm a bonehead" thread.

What was the last truly stupid thing you've done?

Last night, in a rush to get laundry done, I forgot to check all of my pants pockets. Yep, I managed to run my new cell phone through the washer AND dryer. Gee, who knew that it wasn't compatible with hot water, Tide, and then high heat??? they never told me that at the Verizon store!!!

Who else has done something recently that just made you say "DOH!"???

Do you have a replacement warranty for that? If not, it is entirely possible that the phone can be salvaged. I ran a cell phone through the wash by accident. The dryer isn't really a problem. The solution was to disassemble and bake the phone in the oven at 150 F for 1.5 hours. Here's a link to the instructions I followed:

The biggest risk is that you've tried repeatedly to power up the phone. This can cause damage to the phone. The phone should be completely dry before you attempt to power it up. My phone is not as clean as new, though from now on I'm sure I'll remember to check the pockets.

I was unhitching my race car trailer from my tow vehicle in my all-too-steep driveway once. I had to use my 3 ton floor jack to raise the tongue of the trailer off the hitch. It hung up and I couldn't get it to pull off to save my life. Cussin' and wildly frustrated, I pulled the jack out from under the trailer and slung it across the driveway where it teetered over onto it's side wheels and then...

...promptly rocked back and jack slapped me with the handle right across the temple! I almost dropped like a sack of potatoes right where I was standing. Well, that took all of the fight out of me and I calmed down.:rollno:

Ahah that reminds me.
My friend worked at a Chrysler Dealership as a Mechanic. and one day, a jeep needed some fixing underneath. So, it went up onto the hoist.

Well, turns out the Mechanic didn't drive it up onto the hoist properly, so the wheel slipped off the side, and just hung there.
The mechanic's couldn't do anything, so they just watched thinking "ohh...****"

Well soon enough, the OTHER wheel on the same side slipped off, and after about 10 seconds, the WHOLE JEEP flipped over onto it's side and landed flat on the floor.

The damage, surprizingly, wasn't terrible. It did have broken windows, a bent fender, and the hood wouldn't close.
Nothing a few people couldn't fix!

I accidentally set my head on fire once. I had a huge construction paper bat stuffed with newspapers (this was back in high school, don't ask) and it had been sitting in a corner of my room for months when I finally decided to get ride of it. Well, it being the countryside of Ohio, we had metal garbage cans for burning leaves and tent worms so I took the bat out by the barn and stuffed into one of the cans. Now, since paper doesn't burn well enough on its own I doused the bat with gasoline. And lit a match. And leaned over the edge of the can. And dropped the match. And

WHOOMP!

And when I opened my eyes all I could see was fire because my eyelashes were burning off. I put myself out and when I went inside to get some ice my dad looked up from his paper and just shook his head and then went back to reading. His inside voice was so loud I could actually hear him thinking 'that boy's not right'.

Loading up the van after a gig. Using our DJ's $1500 mixer (in a flight case) to prop the door open. Driving home. Unpacking the gear, and remember that we left his mixer at the venue. Went back, and it was still there!

This one was from a fellow student at college. Apparently after a late performance at school he took the bus home. Got on the bus with his guitar. Got home. Remembered that he left his pedal board at the bus stop.

latest bonehead mistake: I had to replace the radiator hoses on my car because of leaks, instead of twisting gently, or cutting the hoses to remove them, I just pulled like crazy, result the hose came flying out, the spring clip that was still on the hose opened my finger in two when it got it. and the I broke the nipple off the radiator. :crying: so instead of an hour job, turned out to be a whole day thing
