there is the output level bar on the upper right, there are many ways to turn down the input, (turn your vol know on your bass, input of Apogee JAM, EQ pedal, preamp vol knob, etc)

But yes, we can think about add the input level control...

Even though I usually didn't feel like I needed input control an input level control will be very useful. I always like to see and know that the input and output are dialed in an optimal way.
So I support Rip and the other that a separate input/ output control will be optimal.

Calvin, do you also know if our Jamup XT will work with Auria or will we need to buy Jamup again within Auria? The Auria website state that you have to buy Jamup within the app. Auria is not cheap to start with, and to buy Jamup again within Auria again, well will never happen.

Not sure. I have presets in Jamup that sound great through headphone or when recorded using Jamup's sampler. But if I use Audiobus so I can record jamup into MTDaw.. everything thins out and becomes distorted. Shut down Audiobus and MTDAW and Jamup sounds good again. I tried a reboot and that didn't help at all.

I'm not digging the whole Audiobus thing at the moment. Maybe it's the iRig or the iPad2 but Jamup sounds like poop as soon as I fire it up with audiobus.


Jamup by itself is awesome but I think I'll use my Mac to record the output. Gonna have to drag my mixer out of storage.

It's not your iPad2 as I use both iPad1 and iPad mini with the whole package. Are you sure you choose Jamup as your source in MT DAW? Because default will be your iRig unprocessed. And turn off the reverb in the out effect in MT DAW it is on by default.
If your source is right, thus Jamup then the problem is the iRig or more correctly then headphone socket and something to do with this filter at 150hz.

Okay, I'm stumped and need help. What I have:

iPod Touch 4th Gen (iOS 6.0.1)
iRig
Peavey AmpKit Link
Amplitube (full version)
JamUp (with Bass expansion pack)

Male-male mini-headphone cable to connect headphone out to physical amp's Aux In
Custom molded in-ear monitors

No matter what combo of software and hardware I use, if I plug my in-ears into the iRig/AmpKit Link, I can hear everything just fine. I can play backing tracks and play along with them and I am able to get the audio levels dialed in so I can hear the music and the bass at the volumes I want.

But, no matter what combo of software and hardware I use, if I connect the headphone out (of the iRig or AmpKit Link) to the Aux In on my amp, I cannot get the bass to be very loud at all. I can play backing tracks on the iPod (either in Music or using JamUp's Jam tab) and they come out loud and clear through my amp. But, I cannot get the bass guitar that I'm playing to come out much above the volume of a soft conversation.

The example I just tried was:

Bass -> AmpKit Link -> JamUp -> SVT Blueline model (nothing else in the chain) -> headphone jack -> physical amp Aux In

In JamUp, I turn the Volume all the way up and turn the iPod Volume all the way up and with my physical amp volume set to 10:00, I can barely hear the bass guitar coming out of it. But, if I put JamUp into Background mode, then switch to the Music player and start a track, it comes out loud.

In a related note (so to speak), I'm very unclear on what the difference is between the slider at the top right (in JamUp, Amp/Fx tab) that slides right/left and the Volume knob on whatever amp I'm using. I expected that the slider at the top would be the input gain and the Volume be the amp's Volume (understanding that the SVT Volume really is an input gain also). The point being, I expected those two things to be separate and unrelated. However, to try and get usable volume from my physical amp, I've tried sliding the slider at the top as far to the right as I can, to where the bass input starts making it clip and sounding nasty. Then, I turned up the Volume itself all the way.

And, like I said, when I do this using my in-ears, I can hear everything okay. But, on my physical amp, the backing track is loud and the bass is still too soft. And this happens with JamUp and the AmpKit Link and it's basically the same with the iRig and using Amplitube.

Help?

I can drive my bass combo through the AUX/ mp3 input easily out of the headphone socket and my iPad. With Jamup of course. But I do not own an iRig anymore so I can help you and Rip tracing this volume matching issues.
But I'm quite sure Stuart that its all can be solved by the right gain structure and the right interface between your iPad and you bass combo AUX input.
One easy fix is to put a mini mixer between your iPad and your bass combo.
Generally with the iRig it is not recommended to max the iPad volume iPad volume due to crosstalk etc in the iRig. And in Jamup jeep your overall gain/ volume so you not see clipping/ red in the main volume up to the right. I keep it so it just goes from green to yellow, not more.

I was trying to record something using Audiobus, Jamup and MTDaw and I noticed that whenever Jamup is run through MTDAW it sounds like poop. Everything thins out and distorts.

Have you guys noticed this when you are working on your stuff? It's like MTDaw is sucking the life out of my sound.

Yeah, it's a glitch with Audiobus. They're aware of it.
To fix it, close everything. Open ALL of the apps you're using FIRST, THEN open Audiobus and connect them.

If that doesn't work, close Jamup through Audiobus and try again. It'll usually fix itself by closing the app and reopening.

Amazing but IK multimedia is still "messing" with your sound, maybe we shell have Steve look into the iRig and see if anything get deleted in there....

It HAS to be the Irig causing it. It's the only common denominator.

Anyone using the Jam or other interfaces having a problem with Jamup tracks being too quiet in MT DAW?

I've had the same problem with Jamup inside Loopy. The common thread in all of this is the Irig.

Jamup is lower in volume compares to the other midi apps, but nothing which the track individual volume can not fix.
By its own when I record bass alone in MT DAW I've never had issues with the volume. Actually the tracks recorded within Jamup seem to be lower in volume if I do not boost the recording volume.

I've noticed Jamup's volume is a bit lower than other apps, but this makes it so low that it doesn't even show up on the meters in MT.

I guess I'll be running a side-by -side test when the Jam arrives.

Unfortunately I've already promised my Irig to someone (if they still even want it after this discussion), so I've gotta keep it in one piece.

It's enough to make recording my bass in MTDAW impossible. Irig just doesn't play well with others.
It seem like every time I have a problem with my iOS setup, it ends up being the fault of IK or their hardware.
Can't wait to bid "good riddance" to this crap.

It's easy to miss because if you're wearing headphones, you can still hear the bass. But the level that its going into the recorder (or Loopy) is just so low that when you playback, the bass disappears.
Unfortunately, there isn't an adjustment to be made. It would require an output slider on Jamup, but it really isn't the fault of Positive Grid.
I imagine this won't be an issue with the Jam.

It's a little interesting that Duke also notes a volume drop with JamUp; I wonder if this could be exacerbated by using the headphone in as the input (via iRig/Ampkit Link)?

I've not purchased AB or MTD' because I haven't re-appropriated the wife's iPad, yet. But it makes me anxious to do so and try this with the Ampkit Link - to see if that gets along any better with JU, AB and MTD, or, if this recreates the problems: could it be the iRig's passive interface, a resistance/impedance issue with input via the headphone connection (which exploits weaknesses in interfaces such as iRig and/or AmpKit Link?), or maybe an input problem with JamUp? Maybe we'll really look forward to Positive Grid's addition of finer input/output level controls.
