Nice leather, but what is that padding made from, Lambs Wool? It looks and feels like the material for applying polyurathane to hard wood floors.

Its actually the only strap I use. I use them with all my basses.
Close to be a member. Custom order in process to be finished at the end of this month. A beautiful Black Tiger 6elite model, Crotch Walnut t/b, mahogany laminates and tiger maple core with oil finish instead of the lacquer finish. It's going to be beautiful, here a pic of 3 weeks ago.

I find the Smith strap works well - it is narrower near the neck which helps get the bass more towards the right.
I also had a second strap lock button added which really helps with the angle/balance

It's a little beast, I kid you not. Alder body with Bartolini's installed. Have the originals too. Not sure if I want to keep it like this or go back to stock.

I picked up a 2014 BSR5EG this past week. The interesting thing is that it sounds like a Ken Smith bass. I know majority of the body is quilted maple, does any one know what the pieces are? I played it on Sunday and it basically played itself, I just have put my fingers in the right place.

Looks like Quilted maple over walnut. That's my favorite combo.
I'm curious what other Smith players are using for backup basses. While I love the sound and feel of my BSR 5 string, in summers, I sometimes play gigs at outdoor festivals, near pools, and at other unpredictable outdoor events, contexts in which I don't necessarily want to bring a high priced instrument. I initially thought of getting a five string Smith Burner bass or KSD, but the tighter string spacing on those models doesn't really work for me. Have any of you found instruments that can get in the ballpark of the Smith sound/feel, especially a five string that might have 24 frets, a 34 inch scale, and 18-19mm string spacing at the bridge? Or, if by any chance any of you have a five string BSR that has seen heavy use and you can let go of it for a reasonable price, please let me know. Thanks for your insight.
