I have a Roscoe 6'er (stated at the risk of loosing my Ken Smith Club Card) with 18mm and I know there are those who will say there isn't much difference from 18mm to 19mm, but if my Roscoe fingerboard was wider than it is I'd have to play it like a pedal steel guitar. I guess using/learning the 'no thumb behind the neck' technique is required for some basses with very wide fingerboards.[/QUOTE]

Interestingly today the battery died at a rehearsal. Went from no problem to no sound, I thought the problem was a wiring or cable issue until I put it in passive mode.
Most basses you can hear it and have a warning. Not this bass, I don't know why. Thankfully I don't mind the tone in passive mode.

Another bump to this thread.
It seems that older Smiths like the 90's stack knob had a pointy-er wings.
That contributed to the classic Smith double humbucker neck thru with the black head stock look that is so sought after by collectors (like notejung's a few posts above this one).
I own a 98 CRV but its shape seems less hand cut than the older Smiths which I really like.
Would anyone who happens to own an older vs newer care to post a pic to see the differences? Just curious is all... thanks!

I think you can still get lacewood as an option but it is indeed rare to find on new Smith's.
Here's my old 94' CR4G. Amazing tone. I regret selling it.

I own another BSR6GN and they were both sold through the same dealer around the same time. Each bass was put inside the other's case so I have the other bass documents and vica versa. So, I'm trying to switch back documents.

I emailed Ken about this. He confirmed that it's possible, that's all.
I know for a fact that this is the case because a friend of mine (whom you personally met...) was the first owner of that other bass and he clearly recalls a mismatch between the bass and the doc's.
I have in my hands right now, with my bass, the documents he was missing.

BTW, I contacted the guy who bought it from my friend but he claims he sold it on Ebay and he won't pass me the new owner's details - which is fine - but he also won't pass him a message from me - which is not so friendly...
