I don't know if I... qualify! Just by an "even" swap on last feb, I offered my Corvette four that I never played actually anymore, so I had this '91 Burner V. The only thing I can say is: if a simple bolt-on Burner plays good like this, how does a "bigger Ken Smith brother" play? It has tight and focused B, plenty of tone & sustain and it plays well all over the neck, too;
It does not have any "personal", unmistakable and characterized sound, but more of an "even" one, absolutely good for all; a breeze action and it is a light weight axe. I must confess that lately it is the only bass I carry when I go to play!!! I am an extremely happy owner. The tuners were originally black, but somehow during time eventually they got discolored, so someone along the road changed the pot knobs, to match the chrome tuners. I don't mind those, but I would be happy to have the original knobs also.
If I win the lottery tomorrow, the "musical money" allocated would be spent in this way:
1) Ken Smith 5 strings (preferably a "bolt on" one and, if somehow available, an "old school" body/headstock shape, like mine)
2) Markbass LMII & Epi 112 (or Schroeder 1210L, or Markbass traveler 12h, or Bergantino, or...?)
3) A Fender Coronado II
